How to Write a Good Story

There’s a story in you somewhere and it’s got to come out. You dream of a career as a published author, but before you get into the business side of things, you’ve got to write a good story. Here are a few pointers to get you started.

Read Your Genre
If you want to write dark fiction for children, read Lemony Snicket, for adults, then read Daniel Handler; bonus points if you know that’s the same person. Read the genre you plan to write, and find your author mentor, but don’t mimic. Be sure to give your story your own voice.

Brainstorm and Mind Map
With or without a solid story idea, take a piece of paper or a blank document on your computer and start writing down everything you can think of that may happen in the story. It’s often helpful to do this on paper so you can literally draw lines to connect related plot points, though there are software that allows you to do this on your computer.

The Famous W’s
Who, what, why, when, and where are your friends. Answer these questions to get started. Who are your characters? What are they doing? Why are they doing it? When and where does the story take place?

Conflict Is a Must
There have to be challenges for your characters; a story with no conflict will not hold anyone’s interest. As best author Daniel Handler says, “If you want a plot to be interesting, then terrible things have to be on the horizon.”

Character Growth
Ultimately your protagonist has to be changed in some way. Whatever experience the character goes through, if there is no lesson learned, no progress in that character’s development the story will be unsatisfying.

Some writers like to have all the above sorted out well before they start writing, while some prefer to wing it and work it out along the way. Either way, these points are all important to keep in mind as you write.

Buying a New Home? Some Things to Consider

 Hey neighbors!!

Are you considering purchasing a home?  Before you do, tae a few moments to consider a few things.  I am no way suggesting you not purchase a home, just make sure it is the wisest choice for you.

1. Location - Location is important.  Is it close to schools, work, and the places you will need to shop? It does not have to be right down the street, but a half hour commute every day in traffic may start to wear on you.  If by driving a little further, you get some other benefits that are important to you then you just need to weigh the choices and make sure it works for everyone.

2. Long Term - Is this somewhere you will be long term? Are you planning on spending years in this town, or is it just a temporary stop on your way to somewhere more permanent? If you are not sure on how long you will be in a specific town, you may want to rent until you know for sure.

3. Condition of the Home -Is the home ready to move in, or are some repairs needed? If there are repairs needed can you do them yourself, or will you have to hire someone? All of this will of course affect what you are willing to pay for a home.  Can you afford the mortgage payments as well as repairs or would you be better off finding another home, or renting short term until a better choice opens up. If there are major repairs needed, consider having someone inspect the home for you.

4. Home Sweet Home - Is this the type of home you want to live in for ever, or is it just the only one you can afford right now? Don't settle on one that is less than you were looking for, too often you will end up unhappy because you gave up certain features you were looking for. Remember, you may not plan on living in the home forever, but make sure you can be happy there.

5. Size - If you are single, or just married and purchasing a home, consider that you might need more space eventually.A spouse, children, pets, etc. may all factor into the size home you are looking for.  Will there be enough bedrooms? Is the dining area large enough? Yard space? More than one bathroom.  Even if you are single, you may want more than one bathroom, a personal one and one for guests. Fenced in yard?

6. List - Create a list of things you are looking for in a home.  Label things are requirements and a second one wants, but not deal breakers. You may also include a few things that would be a bonus, but not necessary.  Try not to bend on the required list.

7. Price - Maybe this one should have been near the top, but don't get in over your head.  Budget out ahead of time what you will be able to afford as a monthly payment.  Be sure to consider all the other expenditures you will have to make.  Home insurance and deposits on electricity, sewer, garbage, water, internet will all need to be included in your budget.  Also try to plan to save a little each month for those unexpected repairs. You can't plan for everything, but better to try, than to enter in to a contract and realize you are going to be barely making it by just to pay the mortgage.  Consider using a mortgage calculator to help figure out payments and how much is coming off capital versus interest.  By taking advantage of a calculator, you will be able to make an informed choice.

8. Credit - Get your credit checked in advance, to see if you will qualify for a loan.  There are places online to check your credit score for free. Make sure you look through and see if there are any debts you could pay off to raise your credit score.  Also check for errors and get those removed from your file.  Once this is done, you will have a final score that will give you a good idea where you stand.

Hope this helps someone who is considering purchasing a home.  Remember there is no set time or age to purchase a home.  Remain flexible.  Happy House Hunting!! Thanks for stopping by!!

Top Tips on Small Engine Maintenance

To help avoid regular small engine repair, it is important to follow these simple maintenance tips that can have your engine running smoothly throughout the season. It is always best to maintain a small engine, over having to repair it due to improper care or use.

Change the Air Filter
Always follow the owner’s manual for the frequency of changing the air filter. In severe conditions, an air filter replacement may be required more often. Simply cleaning the air filter by blowing out debris, instead of replacing the filter  can sometimes damage the filter and allow debris and dust to clog the intake system.

Check All Battery Connections
Engines require a good battery just to get them started, let alone to keep them running properly.  Make sure your posts and terminals are clean and tight, so you have a good contact.  And replace your battery when needed.

Check and Change the Oil
The proper maintenance of any outdoor power equipment begins with understanding and maintaining the engine. To do so, make sure to always check the oil level and add more if necessary. Air-cooled engines often rapidly consume oil so low levels can lead to engine seizures which can require a rebuild. Additionally, inspect for loose fasteners and bolts along with oil and fuel leaks. A quick 60-second review for any loose or missing parts will go a long way.

Drain the Fuel at the End of the Season
Draining the fuel at the end of each season is crucial when the equipment will be stored for up to one year. However, you can also use fuel stabilization to keep the engine fresh for up to a year. Using fuel stabilization will avoid an expensive small engine repair and eliminate draining the fuel tank.

Inspect Each Season
At the beginning of every spring, perform a quick engine check to look for unwanted guests and check to ensure the battery is in good working order. During the winter, rodents will create nests inside small engines and other equipment. Also, since the engine may not be used for long periods, you may want to consider using a battery tender.

Remember the Fuel Filter
The fuel filter should be inspected regularly, along with the engine. A clogged fuel filter will decrease fuel efficiency and overall performance thus adding stress to the equipment and lowering its longevity. While you should follow the manufacturer’s recommendations, try to change the filter every 200 hours. Also, after every use eliminate loose debris or dirt that may have accumulated.

Treat the Fuel When Filling Up
Using Stabil 360 to treat your fuel every time you fill your gas can ensure the engine does not go bad. After 30-days fuel begins to deteriorate so stabilizing fresh and clean fuel will prevent clogs, which is the primary reason for small engines not starting.

Small engine owners should not tackle any maintenance task if not comfortable doing so. The average owners should be able to perform the maintenance items listed in the owner’s manual such as changing spark plugs, the oil, and air filters. For more major maintenance or repairs look for a shop that handles these type of services. Knowing what to look for with regards to small engine maintenance will make the difference.

Five Services You Need to Make Your Wedding Perfect

It's only right to want everything to be perfect if you're going to be getting married soon. The services you obtain for your wedding can make it a fantastic and memorable event. These are five services that you will need to consider for your wedding to be perfect. Make sure that you conduct a reasonable amount of research before you hire the providers of these services to tend to your wedding.

A Professional Videographer or Photographer
The first service you'll need is that of a photographer or videographer. You're going to want to have long-lasting memories of your special day so that you can share them with your family for generations. Therefore, you should hire a photographer or videographer with many years of experience and an array of examples of his or her work to show you. This person should also have positive reviews from customers who have used the services in the past. Amazing Caterers
The food you serve at your wedding needs to please many guests. That's why it's important to have a five-star catering service tend to your event. To find the right provider, you need first to find out what your guests will enjoy eating. Ask friends and family what worked at weddings they have attended.  Research at least three catering service providers and choose the one that has the best reputation and the foods your guests will want to eat at your wedding.

A Live Band
A New England live band will be much better than a DJ. Your guests will get to see the artists up close and personal and hear the live instruments they have to play. It will be like a little private concert. You could request that the artists play some of your guests' favorite songs. The artists may also allow some time for requests during their set. However, that's something you'll need to talk to the artists about. You can find some reliable artists at an affordable price in your area.

A Picture Booth
A picture booth might be a good addition to your wedding. Each guest can have the opportunity to take pictures with his or her mate or family after the wedding is over. You can rent a photo booth that comes with props for the guests to use. Photo booths are very popular additions to modern weddings.

A Meticulous Cleaning Service
You'll also want to ensure that you hire a meticulous cleaning service to take care of the mess that your guests will leave behind. You'll want to focus on traveling to your honeymoon location. Therefore, you'll need to hire a cleaning service provider that will immediately come when the event is over and take over the hard part of the event.

Benefits of Getting a Car Service for Your Special Event

Whether it’s a prom or quinceanera, a family reunion or a wedding, or even just a simple vacation for some serious R&R, hiring a Denver car service is a certified convenient way to get to and from your event worry-free.

If you’re planning for any such event, but are on the fence as to whether or not to get this service, here are some reasons why getting a car service is worth the investment.

Convenience
This is the biggest appeal of getting a car service. Especially if you’re wearing something fancy, you wouldn’t want to have to take the chance of waiting for a cab or driving yourself. If you would rather arrive at the event feeling relaxed and looking your best, then having a car service is the way to go. The same goes for when you need to leave the venue. Whether you have to go sooner than expected, or if you end up leaving far later than you should, knowing that a car service is waiting for you offers much relief.

Meanwhile, if you are traveling and are carrying a lot of things, you and your group don’t have to worry about getting transportation that would fit all your stuff. Getting car service ahead of time can guarantee this convenience, allowing you to relax and rest before you get started on your actual journey.

Safety and Security
Another benefit of getting a car service is the safety and security it provides. By renting a car from reputable service providers, you can rest easy knowing that you will be getting to your destination safe and sound. There’s no need to worry about anything else, except to sit back and enjoy the ride.

This also removes the need to ride a chance service. You will have direct contact with the main office or dispatch, so you can be updated where your ride is, or if in case you need further assistance. The important thing is that you can be secure knowing that the car service is somebody that puts your well-being first and foremost.

Arriving and Leaving in Style with a Car Service
Arriving at the event in style is just as important as being at the event for some people. If it’s a grand, head-turning entrance that you’re aiming for, then arriving in style with a reputable car service is your best bet.

You can rent a limousine, SUV, or town car, according to your own preference, for your event. This is also great if you simply want to experience a luxurious night out of town, without having to worry about limiting your enjoyment because you’ll need to drive home.

These are some of the benefits of getting a car service. Make your reservation early so you can set the arrangements and not have to worry about it as the event date comes closer.

4 Things You Can Do to Combat Aging

There’s no avoiding it—we are all getting older—but there are proven ways to slow that inevitable knock on the door from the Reaper. To be clear, simply living a long time is not enough; enjoying that time and feeling your best is what it’s all about.

Dominique Fradin-Read has been in the business of fending off the Reaper for the greater part of her career as a physician. A passionate leader in preventive aging and regenerative medicine, she knows what it takes to slow the accumulation of years.

1. Take the Proper Supplements
Doctor-recommended supplements can enhance your metabolism, protect against cell damage, and even reduce the chance of skin cancer. Everything from vitamin-C to spirulina can help to regenerate, protect and enhance your health.

It’s not a great idea to start popping whatever pills your Google search comes up with, however. Talk with a preventive medicine specialist to find the right combination of supplements for your needs.

2. Eat a Healthy Diet
You’ve heard countless times that what you eat is impactful on your health. You know it’s true and you want to improve your diet. Put it in perspective and realize that some simple changes in what you consume could add years to your life.

Physicians like Dr. Dominique Fradin-read, who are well versed in the affects of diet on longevity, can attest to the fact that there isn’t one dietary solution for everyone. There are many bodily functions and personal habits that need to be taken into consideration before an appropriate diet can be recommended.

3. Take Care of Your Skin
A sure sign of aging is often present in the skin, even when you may feel youthful otherwise. Those telltale crow’s feet and age spots can prevent someone from guessing you’re younger than you are.

Many non-invasive treatments exist that can help prevent and reverse aging damage on your skin, and rejuvenating facials are only part of the picture. Massage and acupressure can work wonders, as well as a process called lymphatic detoxification.

4. Get in Those Reps
You knew this one was coming. Supplements and diet changes will certainly help, but you have to move your body to keep it young. Depending on your age and capabilities, your workout routine could vary quite a bit from your average YouTube guru, so it’s best to get a preventive health doctor’s opinion before jumping full force into any program.

Remember, seeing the effects of these age-combatting measures won’t happen overnight. With dedication and patience, however, you can start to see the years fall away or at least stop coming at you quite so fast.
