If you've ever wondered exactly what chemicals are in the makeup you're using, or just how safe or natural your favorite beauty product is, you are not alone. Recently I saw a commercial for a Burt's Bees makeup product called Goodness Glows Liquid Makeup, and it intrigued me. I am familiar with the Burt's Bees brand, and use a lot of their skin care, lip balm, etc but had never even realized they also did makeup until seeing that commercial! Of course, I was thrilled when they agreed to send me a couple of their makeup products for review. I enlisted my sister's help in choosing the right shade because quite simply, I'm terrible with things like that. She was able to determine which shade would best match my skin, and I must say, she did a great job. I was leaning towards a shade lighter but when the products arrived, I realized she was right-I'm glad I followed her advice!
I received the Goodness Glows Liquid Makeup and the Mattifying Powder Foundation. These come in many shades, so anyone and everyone can enjoy the natural beauty that Burt's Bees offers. The liquid makeup is super easy to apply. It comes in a small pump bottle, and I quickly learned that a little bit goes a long way. I only need a couple dabs to cover my face. The first thing I noticed when applying the makeup was the smell. Instead of chemicals and a plastic-y scent, this definitely has a mild plant-based smell to it. Not too noticeable or overpowering at all, just something I noticed that quickly disappears. That scent would be because it really is made with ingredients like beeswax, raspberry seed oil, shea butter, and bamboo powder. No parabens, synthetic fragrances, or silicones.
I also noticed this makeup doesn't dry my skin the way some others do. It's naturally moisturizing, and while I have pretty dry skin (especially noticeable during the cold weather), this goes on smoothly and actually helps hydrate my skin! Now, my next thought was would this makeup last? No matter how natural and hydrating it is, if the makeup doesn't last for the better part of the day, I wasn't going to be all that thrilled about it. Well, after several "test runs" wearing it, I can tell you that it is a long-lasting makeup. I usually don't wear makeup during the day (as a transcriptionist I work from home) but I have used this on Sundays for church, and a couple times for a special event where I'm out and about most of the day. I put it on in the morning before leaving, and when I came home late at night, it still looked great!
The Burt's Bees mattifying powder foundation is another incredible natural makeup product. This is also made with bamboo, which actually helps blur imperfections and give you a smooth complexion. I love that it's non-drying for my skin, but it does absorb oil to help remove shine. This comes in a small honeycomb-shaped compact with an applicator in a little compartment underneath. Perfect size to drop in your purse for touch-ups if needed throughout the day.
I have to say, after experiencing the natural beauty Burt's Bees provides, I'm not sure I'll ever go back to the makeup brand I had used previously! I'm pretty picky about what I put on my face. In fact, for the longest time I wouldn't wear makeup at all simply because I didn't like how heavy it felt on my face. These Burt's Bees products are very lightweight, hydrate my skin without being too heavy or greasy, and I honestly forget that I'm even wearing it. I'll be checking to see if the rest of the Burt's Bees makeup line is available in-store near us, or if needed, I can order online. I'm excited to try the rest of the products out!
