Keep It Local

As a new homeowner it’s important to get to know the area that you’ve moved to and the people in it. It’s important to  learn your surroundings and make friends with your neighbours.  However, getting in touch with the locals and the area in order to feel comfortable in your surroundings isn’t the only reason why you should give precedence to “keeping it local”, there are whole host of practical reasons why you should too.

First of all, you should seek to hire tradespeople in your local area when you need work done on your home that is best left to professionals.   Even if you have a ‘trusted’ worker already in place in your old area consider hiring local. Sourcing your tradesman locally offers them a shorter commute which then means that your needs are tended to quicker. If you need an emergency electrician, for instance, you aren’t going to want to wait hours for them to arrive, you’re going to want them in your home as soon as possible in order to reduce the risk of your electrical problem getting worse.  Hiring locally, in comparison to hiring at a distance, allows for this. Regardless of the problem, or the size of it, having it dealt with punctually means that the prospect of paying more for repairs is diminished; and in regards to the costs of hiring locally: doing so means that the tradesmen will charge you less money due to the fact that they haven’t got far to go. You need not cut ties with your trusted tradesman if the relationship means that much to you, but you need to cut ties in a professional sense if you are going to give living in your new home a real shot. For more reasons as to why you should hire an electrician, and any other tradesperson, in the area that you are currently living in click here.

And the local trend doesn’t stop there, you should also shop locally too. Even with the technological online advances of the digital age, there is still a great benefit in seeking and purchasing your produce in the local area. One of these benefits includes the fact that your spending will only help to boost the local economy; according to studies: thriving businesses help boost the prices of houses in the nearby area. so every time you have the choice between spending money online or spending it at a store on your local main street just think about how nice it would be if the price of your home rocketed. Also, ditching ecommerce, or even big chain supermarket or eateries and instead taking your business to locally run business is a great way to find quirky gifts that you’d have no chance finding anywhere else. However, that’s not to say that you shouldn’t use the Internet to find said local businesses if you have no idea where they are!

So, wherever ‘local’ is for you, make sure you keep it there!

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back. Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child
