If This Dog Could Talk Tour with Tip

Hey neighbors!

Tip has some news to share with you!  Merck Animal Health and Elias Weiss Freidman, creator of The Dogist, have teamed up together to help make more dog owners aware of the dog flu.  Tip and I must confess right up front, we did not know much about this, so we were pretty excited about the opportunity to learn more and share with our readers, about the If This Dog Could Talk tour!

Were you aware a new strain of dog flu was found just last year?  I was not. The dog flu is very contagious and can be passed easily at parks, dog parks, dog shows and other events – just about anywhere you can find dogs.  It is especially important to be aware of this during the summer months, when many of us are much more likely to take our furry friends with us.

So Merck Animal Health has this really neat tour going on at three major dog parks in the U.S. The If This Dog Could Talk tour will be set up as a forum at the chosen dog parks to help educate owners regarding the dog flu.  Tip thinks this is a GREAT idea.  I mean who wants the flu?

Now, listen carefully here, if you live near one of these parks:

July 23: Lake Shore East Park at 450 E. Benton Place, Chicago, IL 60601
August 13: Freedom Barkway at 523 Highland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30312

September 24: Frazier Park at 1201 W 4th St. Ext, Charlotte, NC 28202

You will be able to actually get to meet The Dogist and have your dog's picture taken!  Bow-wow!  Isn't that great  For those who do not live near one of the parks, never fear, you can still participate and help raise awareness of the H3N2 strain of the dog flu.  All you have to do is post a picture of your dog on Twitter with the hashtag, #IfThisDogCouldTalk.  Be sure to add @MerckAH.  Some of the photos could be chosen to appear in The Dogist eBook.  Talk about putting on the dog!

By tweeting a photo, you are allowing Intervet Inc., d/b/a Merck Animal Health (“Merck Animal Health”) to use it at its sole discretion, including for marketing materials developed by Merck Animal Health. Once published, it will be available for viewing by any other person for as long as the published materials are in circulation.

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back. Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child
