There is a lot that goes into running a successful household. With all that cooking and cleaning to do, there is no wonder many of us forget to check some important home maintenance. But forgetting to check that all your DIY and various systems and equipment are up to scratch could cost you in the long run. If you don’t catch a problem in time, it might become a big issue, and you could end up calling the professionals out. Checking everything regularly can help you prevent this from happening. Here are some checks that should be done regularly, but are often forgotten.

Air Conditioning

Imagine waking up one hot summer day to find that your air conditioning isn’t working. What a nightmare! To prevent this from ever happening, it’s a good idea to check your system is functioning as it should. Take a quick look at the unit to make sure there is no physical damage. Turn it on as well. If it all sounds ok, there is probably nothing to worry about. Don’t forget that some systems need to be serviced by a workman. You can discover details from Advantage Air.

Smoke And Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Smoke and carbon monoxide are big killers. To make sure your family can sleep safely, you should install alarms that can detect high levels of smoke and carbon monoxide. These are often powered by batteries. Once the batteries no longer work, you alarm won’t either. So it is super important to keep on checking the alarms. Each one should have a red button you can press to test it. The alarm should sound for a few seconds. If it doesn’t, the batteries will need replacing.

Plumbing

We often don’t know we have a plumbing issue in our homes until it is far too late. But you can tell if you have a leak developing by constantly checking your pipes. But faulty plumbing isn’t the only reason you should be checking your pipes! If you have even the tiniest of leaks, it will be creating a water source for vermin and pests. So to prevent an infestation in your home, it is always a good idea to double check there are no small pools of water that any little creatures can drink!

Gutters

If your are has had a storm or torrential rain lately, you will need to climb up to your gutters and check them out. Dead leaves and other organic material can easily become stuck up in them. And this can quickly build up if you do not get rid of it. Gutters that are left and become blocked can cause damage to your property. This is because water will have to run down the wall rather than drainage pipe. And that water flowing down the wall can result in serious water damage.

It costs nothing to carry out these small checks. And they take no time at all! So what are you waiting for? Carry out all these useful home maintenance checks today!
