A Themed Party

Having a themed party is always a good idea. You’ll be able to create a really nice look with your decorations, and it’ll help to set the tone of the party. Girls could have a princess party, and boys could have a superhero party. Whatever they’d prefer. If there are going to be both boys and girls at the party, you could have a theme like ‘country fair’ or ‘under the sea’. Something to suit everybody!

Fancy Dress

Why not invite the kids to come along in fancy dress? You could even suggest that the best dressed wins a prize to encourage the kids/parents to put more effort into the costumes. Not everybody will have money to buy a fancy dress outfit for one day, so suggest that a DIY costume to make it more fun. Or you could provide some accessories to fancy dress at the door that your guests could choose from.

Party Games

As it’s a children’s party, you’re going to need party games. However, you don’t need to fill the whole party up with game after game. Kids are good at making their own entertainment, so all you really need to do is come up with a couple of ideas. The rest of the time they will have fun on their own! Musical statues, pass the parcel, charades, and crafty games are all good ideas.



Kids like to eat fairly often, so you should make sure you have food ready for them. You won’t need much; it’ll just get wasted! Make sure they have a sandwich each, and maybe a little fruit and another savoury snack.


Kids are going to expect treats at a birthday party. It’s up to you if you want them to have them there or take them away with them. Having a great sweets display can make the party really special, and there are lots of candy buffet ideas you can use. You could even let them take a pick and mix bag away with them. Don’t forget the birthday cake either! It wouldn’t be a party without a slice of cake to take home.


There are all kinds of entertainment you can choose to have at the party. Clowns, face painters, balloon artists, and more. It all depends on your budget and how long you want the party to go on for. At the very least, you’ll need to make a playlist that all of the kids will enjoy. Make sure you include theme appropriate music.
