Water Science with Clifford the Big Red Dog

Hey neighbors!

Here is a neat little set for doing some water science experiments with your child at home.  It is recommended for ages 3+.  The set comes from The Young Scientists Club and is one of there Science Kits for Little Hands.  Most young children will recognize Clifford the Big Red Dog and enjoy doing these fun water experiments.

The kit contains most everything you will need for the experiments.  You might have to add something like, an empty soda can, a squirt of dish soap, or a pinch of pepper.  Most items will be found in your home.  A book is included featuring Clifford, explaining the water experiments.

I will share with you here one of the experiments we did.  I don't want to share too much, because I want you to have fun doing these with our own child.  I will tell you a few of the other experiments, so you will have an idea of what can be done.  For example: your child will learn about floating and sinking, three phases of water, colored celery and making rain.

We decided to share jumping pepper.  You fill the bowl in your lab tray with water.  sprinkle pepper on the water so the entire surface is covered.  Add some dish soap to the small measuring cup.  Using your pipette add a drop of dish soap to the middle of the bowl (on top of the pepper).  Observe what happens.

You can find the Clifford the Big Red Dog Water Science kit on The Young Scientists Club website.  You will also find many other kits for varying ages.

Just a little information:
Industry leaders have been calling for just this sort of fun and educational STEM activity for years. The path to a quality STEM education starts early, before kindergarten, and we need to engage throughout the education process, not just at the college level.  To that end The Young Scientists Club’s Water Science kit explains the simple water experiments with catchy titles like icebergs, phases of water, water cycle, making rain, colored celery and more.  No magic wand is needed for the Magic Science kit, young explorers uncover the real science behind experiments like funny mirrors, building a kaleidoscope, magic rainbow glasses and more. All the Clifford kits can come each month directly to your home if you wish to order the company’s mail-order subscription series.

Be sure to follow them on their social media.

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back. Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child
