Our winters can go either way and we never know until a few days before. So to prepare, we get our winter coats washed up and ready along with our gloves, hats, and scarves. We get a bag of rock salt in case we have ice for our stairs and driveway. We make sure our cars are ready too. Other than that we don't have anything outdoors to get prepared. Our pipes are already well insulated and so we only really need to drip water when it gets into the teens, which it has only once this year.
To prepare for winter, I always make sure I have an ice scraper in my car for my windows. (Precisely Mine)
We get the roof rake out as well as the snow blower. Make sure we have salt for the walkways, and cover all of our windows with plastic.
Oh we have to drain our water pipes going outside and put foam over the faucets to prevent them from freezing and breaking during these cold winter months! Woke up to -7 degrees this morning with a windchill of -22! BRRR!
I make sure the weather stripping is all done.
To prepare for winter, I stock up on different beans for lots of slow cooker soups: split pea with ham bone, black bean soup, Senate Bean Soup, etc. Slow cooker bean soups are hearty, healthy, warming, and economical on cold days!
