Keepers of the Faith Golden Text Series

Hey Neighbors!

I am sure many of you will remember how much I like books by Isabella Alden, who wrote under the pen name Pansy.  You can find her books re-printed, at the Keepers of the Faith website.  Here is some information on Isabella Alden from their site:

This is one of my old books.

This is a picture from my old book.

Isabella Macdonald Alden lived from 1841 to 1930. Her pen name was Pansy. She wrote or edited more than two hundred published works. Isabella Alden was known for developing characters who possessed an unwavering commitment to follow Jesus Christ. Her motivation for writing was to give a clear understanding of salvation and what it means to be a committed Christian. So often in her books, she presents the characteristics of a professing Christian in contrast to a possessing Christian. Each book has a particular biblical point she is trying to share with her readers.

Pansy wrote books for a variety of ages.  We have used many of her books for our family reading time.  Each of her books will encourage your child to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.  Most of the Golden Text Series are books designed for the younger children, up to age 12 or 13.  Although, I must say even the older children have enjoyed these books.  Hedge Fence is one of our favorites as each chapter deals with Frank Hudson.  His mother owns a boarding house and a guest there overs to send him a "hedge fence" each month.  The fence comes in the form of Bible verses to help keep him out of trouble.  It is interesting to see how each verse fits into his life and the choices he makes after reading them.  Each chapter of the book starts out with a Bible verse.

The above is a reprint from Keepers of the Faith.

Included in the Golden Text Series from Keepers of the Faith:
A Dozen of Them
The Exact Truth
A Hedge Fence
Her Mother's Bible
Side by Side
Six O' Clock in the Evening
We Twelve Girls

The above is from Keepers of the Faith.

I highly recommend these books.  All of my children have been raised reading them and each one has their own favorites.  I shared some of my older Pansy books in pictures a short time ago, and of course my children have also collected several of them.  The easiest way to get them though, is to visit the Keeper's of the Faith website and order them there.  Be sure to register for their newsletter as they often run specials or have contests your children can enter.

Isn't the cover of this one nice?
These books are perfect for those fall evenings, or for that matter any evening, sitting around the dining room table or living room and reading together as a family.  Do you read with your child at bedtime? Consider these books.  Or if your children are like mine they will wander off to a favorite corner and read them by themselves.  We actually have a hard time reading a book together before someone in the family has started reading it on their own.  Sometimes I hide the book so no one can read it before we read together!

They also have Keepers Clubs which are clubs that can be done as an activity at churches, homeschool groups or in your own homeschool.  We purchased the books for our sons and daughters and they have worked through different sections.  You can learn more about these clubs HERE.

One neighbor will receive two books from their Golden Text Series from Keepers of the Faith.  Be sure to enter right away and then go share this with others.

See you At the Fence soon!

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back. Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child
