What You Should Know about Dentures

Hi neighbors!

Getting the best smile is a goal for many individuals. Genetics, diet, injuries, and disease can significantly damage a bite and smile. Many people have cosmetic concerns about their mouths, but functional issues are important as well. For those who are struggling to maintain a healthy mouth, dentures in San Jose may be a viable option. Missing teeth cannot only be unsightly but can also cause problems with eating and speaking as well, not to mention the shifting and movement of other teeth.

Benefits of Dentures

Dentures often have negative connotations because they are usually associated with very elderly individuals who have deteriorating health. However, individuals of all ages have found dentures to be a benefit his or her oral health. With continual advances in medicine and technology, there have been significant improvements in all dental appliances. There are a variety of options so each patient is usually able to find a solution that works. In addition to choosing the right dental options, it’s very important to work with a qualified and experienced dental professional. An expertly trained professional will be able to provide his or her patients with a variety of up-to-date procedure and treatment options.

Various Options Available

Every individual has different oral health needs and fortunately there are multiple variations of dentures, including complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used for those who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures are used when there is at least one natural tooth left. Dentures are removable appliances, unlike dental implants or veneers. Conventional dentures are used after the teeth have been removed for an extended period of time. Immediate dentures are made beforehand and can be used immediately after the teeth are removed. There are pros and cons to each variation, so it’s important to discuss all the details with a dental professional.

If one is willing and able to spend an enormous amount of money, it now is possible to get what are called "snap-on" dentures, dentures that snap on to either 2 or 4 dental implants that have been surgically implanted. If one opts for 2 implants, the denture will require a palate for stability. The denture that snaps on to 4 implants will not have a palate and will feel much more natural.
