Chalkboard Dogs are Neat!

Hey Neighbors!

I received this really neat Chalkboard Dog.  It is a silhouette of a Sheltie!  I LOVE it!  We hung it on the hallway wall, near the basement door.  When I say hung, I guess maybe I should say placed.  The Chalkboard Dog comes with and adhesive backing, so you can place it anywhere you have room.  And that's not all!  They are repositionable, so you can move them if you like.  You can place them on a wall, refrigerator, freezer, any other flat, smooth surface.  Oh and they are from Steadfast Friends!

Isn't this nice! And no, it is not on pegboard, that is flowers on the wall.

You can write on Chalkboard Dogs with regular chalk, or you can use Chalk Ink.  The Chalkboard Dog is easy to clean with a chalkboard eraser or a damp cloth.  I really like the Chalk Ink that I received with my Chalkboard Dog.

The material used for ChalkboardDogs! is an eco friendly chalkboard film coated with a repositionable, removable adhesive. The grainy texture, slate gray film provides an exceptional finish for writing or drawing with chalk or Chalk Ink®. It wipes clean with an eraser, damp cloth or sponge.

This is what the Chalk Ink looks like.

You can use your Chalkboard Dog to leave messages for each other, use it as a chore chart, keep track of when the dog is getting fed or walked.  There are many uses for your Chalkboard Dog.  And it is available in so many different silhouettes.  You can see what is available by visiting Steadfast Friends.  The Chalkboard Dogs are available for $29.95.  The Chalk Ink can also be found there for $18.95.

Another nice thing to know is, Steadfast Friends gives a portion of all sales to pet charities.
Every time you purchase something from our website we will donate 10% of your purchase price to one of our Charity Partners, and importantly, we are going to let you choose which charity gets the donation.

So neighbors, what do you think?  Does this sound like something you would be interested in?  I hope so, because Steadfast Friends has given me a code for you to use on their site.  It is: steadfast20%

If you visit their site or decide to purchase one, leave a comment here and let me know.  Or take a minute and then leave a comment if they have your breed of dog!  Thanks for visiting today At the Fence!  See you soon!

Update to the 3 - $5 Gift Card Giveaway!

Hey neighbors,

Since I think everyone figured out that the first $5 gift card is for McDonalds, we are going to move on to the second.  Also, I think we will call this the Beat the Heat Gift Card Giveaway.  How's that sound.

Hint #1-Think a great place with something creamy to eat to help you cool off in the summer heat.

Now, I know that is not a big clue yet, but I can't make it too easy to start with.  Newest method of entry: give your best guess as to which place this is.  You can find the original post HERE.

I of course won't be telling until next week.  ;)  So keep coming back!

Going Somewhere? Leave the Dog with a Boarding Service

Hey Neighbors!

Having a dog comes with its own unique anxieties and issues. You have to feed and care for it. You have to make sure it gets enough attention and affection each day. You have to see to its medical needs and general health concerns. There are problems with curbing bad behavior and potty training on top of all that. While a person may become habituated to these daily trials that come with pet ownership, one of the hardest things you’ll have to do is leave your pet behind for a few days on a business trip or a vacation. You may stress out, wondering which of your friends you should ask to take time out of every day to feed, walk, and play with your dog for a few hours while you’re out of town. You may wonder how big of a favor you’ll have to do in return. You can avoid these sorts of worries. You can rest assured that you won’t have to mow your friend’s yard or let him borrow your power tools in exchange for dog sitting. Instead, you can let your dog have a relaxing stay at a place which offers dog boarding in Los Angeles.

High-Quality Care

Many people worry that keeping your dog at a boarding service will mean that your precious pooch stays in a cramped wire kennel under harsh fluorescent lighting for a week or longer. But that is absolutely not the truth. Dog boarding services are like an indoor no-leash dog park where the animals not only get to enjoy independent play, but also will be fed, washed, and cared for. Boarding kennels offer comprehensive care from a staff of kind, well-trained professionals. They can not only offer room and board to your dog, but engaged play, medical check-ups, and even grooming. Your dog will get such spectacular treatment while in the care of these professionals, that it may not even think to miss you.

Day Care for Dogs

The problem with having a brand new puppy is that it is a full-time job on top of having a full-time job! Puppies require a lot of intensive training, such as going to the bathroom outside, and not biting or chewing on certain things. It’s virtually impossible for any person who works a full-time job and has other responsibilities to spend enough time with a puppy so that bad habits are curbed and good habits are developed. Fortunately, many services which offer dog boarding in Los Angeles also offer day care programs. You can drop your pup off in the morning and pick it up at the end of your work day, not having a single worry about mischief it’s getting into. Whether you’re off for a long stay or a regular old work day, a dog boarding service is the right choice for your pet when you cannot be there.

Laser Bleaching Brightens Your Smile

Hi Neighbors!

One of the first things people notice about you is your smile. If you are self-conscious about your smile because your teeth are yellow or discolored, it can be hard to interact in social situations, and it can hurt your self-confidence. If you have used at-home whitening solutions, you may not have been able to achieve the results you desire. As an alternative, you may want to ask your dentist about laser bleaching. Laser bleaching in Oklahoma City is a process that your dentist can use to whiten your teeth and brighten your smile. The process only takes an hour or two, and results can last for 1–2 years. If you want to have a more confident smile, whitening your teeth can make a big difference.

What Is Bleaching?
When you have your teeth bleached, your dentist will apply a peroxide solution to your teeth, and then use a laser to enhance the whitening process. Bleaching is not painful, and you will not need to perform any follow-up treatments at home. Some people experience some sensitivity after the bleaching procedure. This typically lasts only a short time and can be treated effectively with over-the-counter pain medication. If your teeth are especially stained from years of drinking coffee or smoking tobacco, you may be surprised at the difference in your appearance after your teeth are whitened. In many cases, your teeth will be 5 to 10 times whiter than before your procedure.

Caps and Crowns

If you have caps, crowns, or veneers on your teeth, it is not possible to change the color of these surfaces. What you can do, however, is remove stains that have accumulated over the years. Although the base color will not be different, your caps and veneers can be brightened when discolorations are removed. Before you undergo laser bleaching in Oklahoma City, it is a good idea to schedule a regular examination with your dentist. This will help your dentist understand what you are hoping to achieve with the procedure, and will allow you to ask questions about the process. Whitening your teeth can help you feel better about your appearance, and help you greet the world with a confident smile.

Recovering After Dental Implant Surgery

Hey Neighbors!

Dental implants can greatly improve one's confidence, providing them with a newfound sense of vitality and carefreeness. However, recovering from the dental implant surgery can be difficult. Proper recovery is necessary to ensure that the implant procedure was a success. Patients interested in a dental implant in Raleigh should talk extensively with their oral surgeon to make sure they know exactly what to expect after the surgery and what recovery time realistically looks like.

Get Your Rest
Dental implants may be considered a cosmetic surgical procedure by some, but it is still a surgical procedure. When your body is subjected to the trauma of surgery you need to give yourself the proper amount of time to heal. Do not go back to work the next day. Talk with your doctor about what is a reasonable amount of time to devote to rest.
Use the Pain Medication
You may not think you will need the pain medication prescribed to you by your dentist, but you will. Many patients refuse to take medication because immediately following the surgery they feel fine. This is because your mouth is still somewhat medicated from the anesthesia and in shock from the surgery. Once both the anesthesia and shock begin to wear off, the pain becomes very real. Try to get ahead of the pain and take the anti-inflammatory medication before you think you need it. Not only will it make your recovery less painful, but it will also reduce the swelling.
Soft Foods
Your dentist will tell you what kind of foods you can eat immediately after the surgery as well as the days that follow. This will probably be a diet of soft foods and liquids. Before your surgery prepare a grocery list and stock your refrigerator with the appropriate foods. This will reduce temptation to snack on something crunchy when the munchies hit.
Salt Water
Talk to your dentist about a salt water rinse. If you know someone who had a dental implant in Raleigh, then you might have heard them talk about how rinsing with a salt water concoction helped manage the pain and quicken the healing process. Ask your dentist how to incorporate this into your recovery plan.

Picking the Best Mattress at Mattress Stores

Hello Neighbors!

Something that everyone has in common is that everyone sleeps. Everyone needs sleep, no matter who they are. Some may feel that they don’t need very much sleep, regular sleep, or even consistent sleep, but they still sleep. Sleep is essential to your body being able to do all that it is needed to do throughout each day, so making sure you get quality sleep each night becomes a priority. A huge factor of whether you get a good night’s rest is dependent on the mattress that you have. Picking the right mattress can be time consuming and a little pricey at times, but it is worth every penny and every minute spent. Visiting mattress stores in Milwaukee, WI, is a great idea when looking for a mattress, as you are able to personally lie on each mattress and test it out before actually purchasing it.

The Staff

An essential part to picking a mattress when looking at different stores is the staff. It is so nice when you are taking so much time to pick something like a mattress out, and you come across staff that is friendly and greets you with a smile. It makes the experience that much more bearable. Plus, the staff is the ones who will know the most about each mattress and the benefits of each. It allows you to more quickly choose out a mattress that fits any special concerns you have or any specific features you are looking for. Having that staff there to help is invaluable.
The Store Visit

When you are out visiting mattress stores in Milwaukee, WI, it can be frustrating as you try to find the best mattress for your situation and body. The best thing about visiting the actual store versus just shopping online is that you get to personally lie on and try each mattress to see how it feels. This allows you to know for sure whether you like the pillow top or the no pillow top feel better, and more. And it helps to actually get to talk to the friendly staff as they help you know the differences between each mattress and what things you might like to try out.

Basic Facts about Cataract Surgery

Hi Neighbors!

A cataract is cloudiness in the lens of the eye that is caused from a buildup of protein. The cloudiness keeps light from going through the lens, which can cause loss of vision. Cataracts are often a result of aging, but can also be caused by infection, injury, diabetes, drugs, radiation, or trauma to the eye. Cataract surgery in Cary can easily take care of this problem and restore vision once again.

Surgery Preparation

In preparation for this surgery, the patient may be asked to stop taking certain medications, especially those that may cause extra bleeding. Tests will be performed in order to determine the right lens that will be implanted. The procedure itself is rather quick. Eye drops will be used to dilate the eye, and local anesthetics will numb the area. If necessary, sedatives can be given to help the patient relax. The patient is awake throughout the procedure, which usually takes an hour or less.

This procedure is what breaks up the cataract and the lens in order for it to be removed. An incision is made in the front of the eye, which is small enough to insert a probe the size of a needle. This probe sends out ultrasound waves which break up the cataract and suction out the pieces. The back of the lens stays in place so that the artificial lens has somewhere to rest. This procedure can even be done without stitches, although some doctors may choose to close the small incision.

Extracapsular Cataract Extraction

This procedure is a less-used alternative to phacoemulsification. A larger incision is made and surgical tools are used to remove the lens. Suctioning tools are used to remove the cataract fragment and the rest of the lens. Stitches are usually required for this type of procedure.

Lens Replacement

Finally, an artificial lens is implanted. It is usually made of plastic, silicone, or acrylic. There are lenses available that are flexible enough to fit through a small enough incision that won’t require stitches. There are different types of lenses available in cataract surgery in Cary. Some lenses can work like bifocals for near and distant vision. Other lenses can block ultraviolet light. There are even lenses available that can correct astigmatism.

Three Advantages of a Water Softener

Hello Neighbors!

Hard water contains extra minerals and metals that make life problematic for about 85 percent of Americans, the Virginia Cooperative Extension estimates. It’s no wonder so many homeowners have turned to water softeners to eliminate these difficulties.
Water softeners dilute mineral concentrations in water, which offer the following three advantages. If you like what you see, you may consider seeking out a water softener in Youngstown.

1. Cleaner Dishes

One of the great downfalls of hard water is what it does to your cleaning efforts. Clothes and dishes cleaned in hard water sport white streaks, spots, and a soapy residue that can lead to poor taste. Water softeners decrease mineral content in water, allowing for cleaner dishes and softer clothes.
This also holds true in bathrooms, where hard water leaves a soapy deposit that requires more frequent cleaning.

2. Faster Water Heating

If you’re getting tired of waiting for the water to heat up in the shower or at the bathroom sink, a water softener can help. According to the Virginia Cooperative Extension, water softeners improve water heater efficiency by 22% for electric heaters and 29%for gas-powered heaters.
Not only does that give you hot water faster, it decreases your utilities bills over time.

3. Longer Appliance Lifespans

Water softeners also have a financial advantage: they can increase your appliance lifespan by a measurable amount.
Without a water softener, hard water causes mineral buildup in appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, and water heaters. This decreases efficiency and shortens overall lifespan. By contrast, a water softener keeps your appliances clean, sleek, and efficient. This conserves energy and raw materials, making water softeners an environmental savior as well.

Finding a Water Softener

If hard water has made life miserable, it’s time to find a water softener in Youngstown. Start by consulting online listings and comparing selling prices through shopping aggregators like Google Shopping.

You may also want to hire someone to install the water softener to ensure everything is done properly. This will cost you some extra money, but the improvement in your quality of life and knowledge that the water softener was installed correctly will be worth it.

A baseball named Homer, a basketball named Hoops, a soccer ball named PK and of course they have a sports fan named Jaxon.

Now, if you have a young athlete in your home, what a perfect little gift for them to carry around with them to practice this summer.  Maybe even the games!  Or perhaps they would make a great gift for the whole team.  They could have their own mascots!  Or, if your child isn't on the team, but likes to watch games, then Jaxon the Sports Fan would be the perfect match.  They can watch games together.

And the nice thing is, with Radz the fun doesn't end when the game does.  You can still enjoy the candy anywhere and each Radz character comes with a code so you can play some games on your computer when you get home.  Just enter your special code and then explore the Radz online world with fun games, videos and Apps.

And of course, each Radz comes with a backpack buddy clip, so you can take them everywhere with you.  We have taken a couple of ours on trips, to restaurants and now we can take our Sports Characters with us when we play ball.  The Radz line also has lanyards to carry your Radz with you!

Of course don't forget each Radz character is a candy dispenser.  And when they are empty, you can purchase a refill packet of their citrusy candy.  They are filled with little morsels of Orange Burst, Apple Smash, Strawberry Splash and Radzberry Crush that they deliver by sticking out their tongues.  My daughter so enjoys this!

Available for $4.99-$5.99, you will be able to find the Radz characters at your favorite specialty shops, like: Cracker Barrel, Hudson News and Hallmark franchises.  Be sure to check out the other fun Radz Characters!  You can check out some of the other characters by reading my previous posts, Radz Gone Wild and Radz Twig and Max.  Visit their Facebook page HERE.

Three Rabbit Health Issues Requiring Veterinarians’ Attention

Hi neighbors!

Rabbits are a great first pet for you or your child. Comparatively low maintenance and quiet, rabbits don’t offer the same kinds of challenges as cats and dogs. However, rabbits still have health concerns that may warrant a veterinarian’s attention.

If your rabbit displays any of the following health issues, start seeking out qualified Dallas veterinarians right away.

1. Gastrointestinal Stasis
One common issue among pet rabbits is gastrointestinal stasis. Rabbits with this condition stop eating and drinking because their gastrointestinal tract has shut down. If left untreated, rabbits will starve to death.
Contact a vet if your rabbit doesn’t eat or drink anything for four to six hours, or if your rabbit displays any abnormal eating patterns.

2. Head Tilt

Some rabbits get what is called “head tilt.” If you notice your rabbit’s head tilting to the left or right, contact a vet immediately. This could be indicative of an inner ear infection or other viruses, including e. cuniculi or pasteurella.

Other symptoms include eye rolling, lack of balance, listlessness, straining to urinate, and drinking too frequently.  The vet will take blood samples to provide a more accurate diagnosis and full treatment plan.

3. Parasites

Rabbits can also get fleas and parasites like coccidian. Signs include loss of appetite, diarrhea, bloating, and loss of hair. Sometimes, your rabbit won’t display any symptoms. In this case, you can test your rabbit’s feces. If the feces floats, take your rabbit to the vet for a full diagnosis.
Some pet owners who suspect their rabbit has fleas or other parasites assume it’s okay to use dog or cat medication on their rabbit. This is not the case. Flea or mite dips for other animals can be fatal to rabbits. Instead, take your rabbit to the vet for eco-safe, natural injections and oral treatments.

Finding a Veterinarian

While seeking out Dallas veterinarians, be sure to ask if that particular veterinarian treats rabbits. In some areas, rabbits are considered “exotic” and not all animal doctors will know how to treat your pet.
Above all, make sure your veterinarian is qualified and has good reviews from pet owners.

How Your Orthodontist Wants You to Floss with Braces

Hey Neighbors!

If you have braces, it is vitally important that you floss daily, but many people leave flossing out of their dental hygiene regimen because they don’t know how to do it. Rather than allow decay and gum disease to plague your teeth, here is the way your orthodontists in San Antonio recommend that you floss your teeth.

Floss Threader

If you were to floss your teeth without a floss threader, the floss would only reach the bottom of your braces. You would completely leave out your gums, one of the most important parts of flossing. A floss threader is a tool that allows you to get the floss above your braces to that you can floss correctly. Your orthodontist should have provided you with a floss threader when you first got your braces. If you lost the threader, your orthodontist can provide you with another or it can be purchased over-the-counter as well.

To floss, all you have to do is insert your floss into the open loop of the floss threader. Then you insert the pointed end of the threader underneath the arch wire of the tooth that you are trying to floss. Pull the threader through until the floss is under the arch wire of your braces.
Now, you have to remove the floss threader so that you still leave your floss under your braces. This can be done by holding one end of the floss while pulling out the other end of the floss.
Finally, slide the floss through your teeth, making sure to gently bring the floss up to your gums. You should repeat this process for each space between your teeth that you have braces. It will help to reduce decay so your smile will be shiny and white when you get your braces off.

Stiff Dental Floss

If it is too time consuming for you to floss your teeth with a floss threader, you may find that stiff dental floss might work better for you. With stiff floss, it is easy to thread the floss in between the arch wire of your braces and your teeth.

If flossing is hard for you to do with braces, talk to the orthodontists in San Antonio. They can help you learn how to correctly floss your teeth.

Shelties At the Fence!

Hi Neighbors!

We decided to try and get some pictures of the Shelties today since it was such a nice day out.  One problem though....these are active Shelties and they wanted to enjoy the day.  Just look!

These last four pictures are after they settled down and were tired!

We believe Grace is expecting puppies soon!  She would not even join in on the fun.  She just sat on the deck in the shade.

Have You Tried PhotoPad?

Hi Neighbors!

I am really hoping my week is slowing down a little bit.  I have had some time to actually get on my Facebook page recently.  I took the opportunity to use PhotoPad.  I am really enjoying spending time designing photo books.

I am working on one right now with our baby bunnies and Sheltie puppies.  The PhotoPad App is really easy to use.  You can choose pictures from your computer, Facebook, Flickr or an URL.  You can automatically add pictures and it will fill the photo book for you, or you can do what I do and select them individually.  By doing this, I move them around, resize them, change the order, just basically keep designing and redesigning until I have what I want.  I add photos, remove photos, move them around on the page, add text, change your text, rotate or angle pictures or text.  Then you can add stickers and shapes.  I added a crown to one of the puppy's heads.  I am going to start one of our travel pictures and one of the children playing games.

Once you have finished and are satisfied with your photo book you can save it to Facebook, send pages as eCards, send it to friends or save as a photo book.  You can change the settings from private to friends, or even make it public.  I am going to have my daughters each design a photo book too!

Along with creating photo books, you can also create eCards, postcards, and post or send animations. The postcards use your Facebook photo for a stamp.  You can then add a photo, edit the text and send!

This is like online scrapbooking.  I am sure I will continue to design on PhotoPad and I really believe my neighbors would enjoy this too!  Like the PhotoPad page and then be sure to try out the PhotoPad App.

As you work and design photo books, eCards and postcards, you earn points and thus advance to higher levels.  For each level you go up, you are entered to win the monthly drawing.

If you use Photopad, be sure to leave a comment and tell me what you like about it.  Or maybe you have some suggestions for other options you would like to see on PhotoPad.
