Spanish For You!

Hey Neighbors!

Our next product from the Crew for review is the Spanish For You curriculum!  Do your children have an interest in learning Spanish?  Mine do.  We visit a few churches each year that have a Hispanic congregation, and although they speak English, it is also fun to be able to converse in Spanish.  Each of my girls has picked up a little bit just from having friends that speak Spanish, but we thought this would help a little bit.

We received the downloadable course Estaciones or Seasons. The courses are theme based.  I am going to mention first, I think I would recommend the actual, physical copy.  I don't know if it works the same with the physical copy of not, but there was quite a bit of searching done to find the appropriate lessons and activities.  This is supposed to be corrected.

There are audio files and activities included to be used with the curriculum.  This includes flash cards to print out and use with your child.  The lessons are set up for 4 days a week, but you could easily do 3 a week.  Each class should take approx. 30-40 minutes, depending on the activities you decide to do.  You can click HERE to see the Table of Contents and learn a little about the program.

Here is a little about the author, Debbie Annett, of Spanish for You from their website:
have been teaching Spanish for grades kindergarten through high school for 14 years.  I have taught Spanish enrichment classes for grades 1 through 8, and all levels of high school classes for homeschool students.

I am an Illinois State Certified Teacher with a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Illinois University.  I have studied in Seville, Spain, and have 8 years of international business experience prior to becoming a teacher.  I currently teach Spanish classes for Tri-City Enrichment Homeschool Coop. for grades 3 through high school, as well as tutor students privately and provide after-school Spanish enrichment classes.

You can purchase the entire Estaciones download for grades 3-8 for $64.95.  One of the benefits of this is you have all the grade levels right there.  This is convenient for homeschoolers who have varying ages to teach.  You could easily use this with more than one grade.

We are headed to New Mexico soon, so perhaps my daughters will get a chance to try out their Spanish.

Be sure to read what other Crew Members have to say about Spanish for you by clicking the link below.

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back. Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child
