Hi Neighbors!
Here is another great, little book for your children by Charmaine Hammond. This book is based on a true story from the book and movie, On Toby's Terms. Toby and His Hospital Friends is about a Pet Therapy Dog. The book sells for $11.95 from KendahlHousePress.com.
This story would be really good for children to read who might be making a trip to the hospital, or to teach children about Therapy Dogs.
A little about Toby:
When Charmaine and her husband adopted Toby, a five-and-a-half-year-old Chesapeake Bay retriever, they figured he might need some adjusting time, but they certainly didn’t count on what he’d do in the meantime. Turns out that Toby was a holy terror who routinely opened and emptied the hall closet, turned on water taps, knocked over the water cooler, pulled and ate things from the bookshelves, and spent his days rampaging through the house, knocking down everything in his path. Oddest of all was his penchant for locking himself in the bathroom, and then push the lid of the toilet tank onto the floor, smashing it to pieces. While much love, understanding and a bit of therapy helped, the real breakthrough came when Toby became a "Pet Therapy Dog," essentially, training that helped him prepare for his special and innate talent to comfort and soothe people. And thus, Toby has become a "new" dog. And now, children of all ages can learn not only about Toby, but how his understanding and love for people helps them to feel soothed, helped and simply loved.
This book is colorful and interesting. The story will hold children's interest. Also included in the back of the book is a page of questions to enhance children's critical thinking skills. The story is even more interesting because it is based on fact. You can tell your children a little about the real Toby.
