I received a really neat game from Educational Insights. It is called KaBAM! The crazy-fast word building challenge! As the new school year approaches, make sure to enter the giveaways from Educational Insights. They make great tools for home-schoolers, and as gifts for teachers and students.
The object of the game is to win the most cards. You can play with just 2 people, or you divide into 2 teams. Each team receives half the deck. Each player/team flips over the top card on their stack and place them face up next to each other on the table. Both players/teams try to be the first to create a word using the letters on the cards. They must use the letters on the cards and make a word by adding a letter either before, after, or between the two letter combinations. They are not allowed to change the order of the letters if there are two letters on one card. Such as if the one card has "ou" they may not switch it to "uo". The first player/team to shout out a correct word wins both cards. Play continues by each of them laying down new cards, until eventually they are out of cards. At that point, the player/team with the most cards wins. Proper names and capitalized words are not allowed. Foreign words are not allowed unless they appear in a standard English dictionary. Now, there are also some KaBAM! cards included. During a round if a player turns over a KaBAM! card, each player/team lays down a second card and the first player/team to come up with a word using the letters on 2-3 of the cards, wins all 4 cards. If two KaBAM! cards are turned over simultaneously the players/team each pick up their KaBAM! cards and return them to the center of their stack of cards and play continues.
My children really had a lot of fun playing KaBAM! last night! Both boys and girls said they enjoyed it. Remember my children range from 10 to 26. We weren't home, we were out for our 29th anniversary! We actually were able to stay at a hotel and go out for a dinner of Prime Rib! Anyway, the older 2 girls watched all the younger ones and they played KaBAM! together. Apparently, the game got a little silly at times while they were trying to come up with words. It is one of those games that sounds real easy, until you are trying to spit out a word real fast.
KaBAM! is definitely a game I would recommend, especially to help improve spelling. Home-schoolers and teachers be sure to enter and maybe you can win a KaBAM! game of your own. If not, it can be purchased through Educational Insights for $12.99. Be sure to check them out on Facebook and Twitter.
