Hello Neighbors!
Here is a product that would be great for home-schoolers or perhaps a teacher! Estimation Station ($14.99) is a really neat way to teach children to make logical estimations. It is a 4" cube jar with a sturdy base, that you can fill with all sorts of items to do your estimations. As a teacher you can fill the cube or send it home with a student to fill. Make sure you or the student count what is put into the cube and write it down. Allow each of your students to make a guess as to how many ______ are in the cube. After they have written down their guess use the scoop and see how many of the items will fit in the cube. Ask someone to count them as you place them in the scoop. The cube holds approx. 8x whatever is in the scoop. Allow your children to do the multiplication and then see how close their estimates were. Not only does this encourage logical estimates, it also helps with counting and multiplication. As you use different objects in the cube they will learn comparison, and you could include graphing and statistics. There is a booklet included with a week's worth of activities. This is recommended for ages 5+.

You can find all sorts of items to fill the Estimation Station with. (Marshmallows, washers, M and Ms, beans, coins, whatever you can think of that will fit. I am always impressed with the products I receive from Educational Insights! It is a must, to visit for home-schoolers and teachers. Or maybe for parents looking for a gift for a teacher! Make sure you watch the video where we give an example of using the Estimation Station.
