We are still in Chicago and having a great time! Yesterday we actually managed to visit some of the thrift stores in the area! I love thrift stores and yard sales! As a general rule though, I do not purchase used socks. Which brings me to the subject of my next Get Out Get Active post. I recently received some socks from Thorlos for review and I am excited about these socks. They are so comfortable. As you know I am walking a lot lately. So I was very interested in trying a pair of their Walking Socks (Unisex) White Mini Crew. I love the way they are designed. There is extra cushioning in the heel and ball of your foot areas in the sock. Extra cushioning for all the extra work you are putting on your foot. The exclusive Thor Lon construction is designed to wick moisture better. There is thin cushioning at the instep for lace pad protection and then Spandex in the arch for better fit. The specific socks I received are for use on the treadmill, local track or a stroll around the neighborhood.
Thorlos Walking Socks:
"Walking Thorlos are designed to help protect your feet from the damaging forces of impact, shear and blistering that are common to walking. In order to provide these “Quality of Walking Life” benefits, THOR•LO has spent 25 years in Research and Development learning about the “demands” that walking puts on your feet, and what specific sock design and construction is needed to protect the Walking Foot from those specific activity demands"
I also received a pair of Light Hiking Socks. They are a moderate cushion mini crew. Perfect for day hikes in moderate to hot climates with flat to varied terrain. To me these are the perfect socks to walk on nature trails at parks. We often go camping and these would be great when we take family hikes. These also are super soft! And an interesting fact on the back of the package states:"Always wear your Tholos when fitting footwear. An improper fit can reduce circulation (footwear too tight = feet too hot/cold)." Mine are a pretty pink. Love them!
Then I also received 2 pairs of the Experia Socks. One pair is medium and is a Royal Blue, while the second pair is a small Turquoise. My daughter who likes to jog has claimed both of them! Experia is anatomically engineered for aero-dynamic fit and protection without weight. This is powered by Thorlo pads. These socks are designed with high performance runners, cyclists, hikers, and fitness walkers in mind. Those who prefer a minimal amount of foot protection. These are NOT recommended for active people with any distracting foot issues or long time wearers of Thorlos thick or moderate cushioned products. My son will probably claim one of these from his sister as they like to jog together in the mornings. SO if you are a dedicated runner, cyclist or hiker you just might want to check out a pair of Experia ($13.99).
Thorlos actually has a special going right now, where if you purchase 3 pairs of socks you will receive a 4th pair free. Thorlos carries different socks for different sports and for different levels of activity. This is one of their great benefits. they have socks for walking, running, hiking, cycling, basketball, tennis, skiing, western and everyday comfort.
Here is just one of the interesting FAQs I found on the Thorlos website:
"Does Thorlos come in Natural Fibers like cotton or wool? Let's deal with one at time. Cotton is a great fiber for outer apparel. It is cool and breathable; and it feels good next to the skin. Unfortunately, in the closed environment of a shoe, it becomes the enemy of the foot. During activities both mild and vigorous, the foot perspires. Cotton is what is called a hydrophilic fiber - it attracts and absorbs moisture. As the cotton fiber gets wet, the fabric collapses and loses all of its protective capabilities. This of course can lead to blisters and other foot issues, and it's why you will NOT find cotton in Thorlos, except in the tops of a few of our styles (but never in the foot). We put it in the tops to help absorb perspiration that may run down the leg before it gets into the shoe or boot.
Wool is also a great fiber. It has excellent insulating capabilities, and it retains those capabilities when it gets wet. Unfortunately, wool is easily abraded - it is not particularly durable. Like cotton, it too tends to absorb water. It will dry fairly quickly when exposed to the air; but again, in the closed environment of a shoe, like cotton, wool tends to absorb water, the fabric collapses, and it loses its protective capabilities. Many of the Thorlos outdoor products have some wool content; but we blend wool with other high performance fibers that retain their protective resilience to provide insulating capabilities without sacrificing protection and durability."

Here is what the winner will receive:1 pair Thorlos Thick Cushion Hiking Sock Medium Khaki Crew (Women's) 1 pair Thorlos Thick Cushion Running Sock Medium WH/PLAT Mini Crew (Unisex) and 1 pair Thorlos Thick Cushion Tennis Sock Medium White Crew (Unisex)
