The Love That Dog Training Program Book Review and Giveaway

Doggy Days Post #13

Hi Neighbors. Here is a dog training book to include in our Doggy Days Event. This book is called The Love That Dog Training Program by Dawn Sylvia-Staciewicz and Larry Kay. This positive system of rewards and punishment is a five week course to train your dog. Dawn has some well-known dogs for clients, such as Bo Obama and Splash Kennedy. She is a leader in the field of positive reinforcement dog training. She is known for her groundbreaking method of using treats and bonding, rather than choke collars and punishment. And now you can read about her training method and implement them with your own dog/s. Dawn was inspired by lessons learned in parenthood and applied to dog training.

Here are some benefits they claim you will be able to train your dog to do:

1.Never pull on his leash
2. Be relaxed around food
3. Enjoy spending time in his crate
4. Calmly accept grooming and bathing
5. Stop barking
6. Respond to verbal clues
7. Give up jumping and furniture chewing
8. Learn tricks
9. And much more

The book is broken down into chapters such as:
My Approach to Dog Training
Preparing for Dog Training
Feeding, Potty Training and Crating
After which you begin the 5 week course.
There are also a couple of chapters on Training Games, Clicker Training, and Behavior Problems.

Overall this book covers just about any training concern you may have, and it is all done with positive reinforcement. A couple of things I appreciate about the book is it is written in a simple enough form you can understand what is being said. The other thing I really like is there are very clear pictures to go along with the training steps which show you what they are describing. You don't have to just guess if you are doing it right. The book also shows them working with various size dogs. Being an owner of a small dog, I know that not all training books help you to deal with a small dog. There is a training log at the end of each chapter for the weekly training that will allow you to keep track of your dog's progress.

There are several locations on their site where you can purchase this book online. You may want to like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter.

i love that its all positive reinforcement training. As the owner of a rat terrier and a rat terrier mix this is extremely important to me. As rat terriers take harsh words or punishment very very badly.

I would like to try this book because: It’s a program that requires no special training or dog-handling abilities, just a willingness to commit to patience and practice.

Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back.  Hey neighbors, its with a heavy heart I let you all know that my mom (Lori) unexpectedly passed away the end of June. Our family has been taking the time between now and then to be together and remember what a light mom was. I came on towards the end of last year and was planning on fully moving my interviews and review to this website. I intend to to so partially to keep mommas beautiful website going. Thank you all so much for your love and support over the years. ~Mercy
