Penny Stones Review and Giveaway

Neighbors,

Here is the newest post in the Gift Basket Giveaway!  Penny Stones!  This is a terrific idea, for dinner parties, birthday parties and more importantly family dinners.  I think this is a great way to start interesting conversations with your family, friends and others.  Penny Stones are made with recycled glass in Cleveland Ohio by people with disabilities.  They are clear glass "stone" with words applied to the bottom that you can read through the glass.  Each stone has a unique question or suggestion to start conversations.  You can set a couple on the dinner table at night and have each individual respond.  Some examples are: 1.best gift you received 2. funniest travel story 3. a favorite childhood memory 4. 1 good thing that happened today.  What a great way to spend meal time talking with each other.  Each set contains 21 stones.

According to a recent study playing with Penny Stones improves children's conversation skills.  And:
"A recent Stanford U. alumni study found that the ability to make small talk had a significant impact on an individual’s success, while grade point did not.
“Children who enjoy family dinners 3-5 times a week are less likely to smoke, drink, and take drugs than kids who dine on their own. They also have better grades and fewer emotional problems.”
– Psychology Today©"

Penny Stones also includes game suggestions on their website.  Penny Stones come in different editions.  They have Original Edition, Love and Marriage Edition, Slumber Party Edition, New Parents Edition, and Faith Based Edition.  They are $15 each, plus shipping and handling.  You can order them online at the Penny Stones website, or you can use their locator and find a retailer near you.   Teachers, this would be a great icebreaker the first day of school, or even as suggestions for writing assignments.  Homeschoolers this would work for you too!  Have your children do one a week where they choose one and sit together and discuss their answers.

Gift Basket idea: Pick a pretty bowl (which can be used to hold the stones later), include a favorite coffee or tea.  Add netting and a pretty bow.  This would make a great gift for a friend, teacher, or anyone else you can think of.

The winner of this giveaway will receive their own edition of Penny Stones.

Mandatory Entry:Visit the Penny Stones website and then in a comment tell me which edition you would be most interested in.  You do not have to be a blogger to enter, but you must leave a valid email where you can be reached should you win.  This giveaway will end 11/23 at 11:59 pm CST.  The winner will be chosen using random.org and will be notified by email.  The winner will have 48 hours to respond.  (USA only)

I like both the original and faith-based editions. I can see the slumber party edition being popular with my daughter when she gets a little older.

Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back.  Hey neighbors, its with a heavy heart I let you all know that my mom (Lori) unexpectedly passed away the end of June. Our family has been taking the time between now and then to be together and remember what a light mom was. I came on towards the end of last year and was planning on fully moving my interviews and review to this website. I intend to to so partially to keep mommas beautiful website going. Thank you all so much for your love and support over the years. ~Mercy
