Bake For The Cure Baking Contest!

Hi neighbors! It's a lovely Autumn afternoon, and I'm stopping by to ask for your help.  I am participating in the ACH Foods Bake For The Cure baking contest that starts today.  This contest supports Susan G Komen for the Cure. Today and the next 2 Mondays,  I will be posting recipes (and pictures of our family trying them out). There are 19 other bloggers participating in this, so here's where you come in-I need comments! Easy, I know, but if I get the most amount of comments on my recipe posts, then we win a $500.00 gift card to a cooking store! So please, feel free to blog, tweet, or email your friends and family about this. Every comment helps!

So, without further ado, here's our first recipe:
One-Dish Taco Bake
This recipe is in the Bake For The Cure cookbook I was sent in my baking kit, and I was supposed to add a personal twist to it. I'll give you the original recipe first:

Taco Meat Filling
1 lb. Ground Beef
1 Package French's Original Taco Seasoning

Batter
3/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
1/2 cup Masa Corn Flour or Corn Meal
2 envelopes Fleischmann's Rapid Rise Yeast
1 tablespoon Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Salt
3/4 cup very warm Milk
3 tablespoons Mazola Corn Oil
1 Egg

Toppings
1 cup Chunky Salsa
1 cup Shredded Mexican Style Cheese
1 cup Corn Chips, partially crushed

Brown ground beef and drain. Add taco seasoning and mix well.
Mix batter ingredients together in a greased 9 1/2-inch greased deep dish pie plate.
Top batter with taco meat filling. Pour salsa evenly over meat; sprinkle with cheese and corn chips.
Bake by placing in a cold oven; set to 350 degrees. Bake for 30 minutes or until done.

My experience/thoughts on the recipe:

For a personal twist on this recipe, we changed out the ground beef for ground turkey. It makes for a healthier meal, and our family has really started using ground turkey a lot in our normal tacos. So, I thought this would be a great chance to try it in another meal!
Cooking the ground turkey!

Add the taco seasoning!

Corn oil and Yeast!

Taco meat over the corn meal crust

In the oven...the crust overflowed our pan a little!

The finished Taco Casserole

My serving suggestion-some sour cream on the side!

So there's the step-by-step of baking this Taco Casserole. I found that this is a very quick, easy recipe that I will definitely be making again! The family loves it! We added sour cream on the side for dipping (what is Mexican food without sour cream?!), which really adds to the flavor!  I like that the recipe calls for basic pantry staples too, so we don't have to go shopping for exotic ingredients!

Our family vote: We give this recipe a 5-star rating! Fast and easy to prepare, basic ingredients, and delicious taste-We like it! We love it! We want more of it!

So, now I'm asking you, my wonderful neighbors, to help us out here! Please, leave a comment! Tell us one of your favorite recipes, share a twist on this recipe you think would taste good, anything! And please, help spread the word!

We love tacos in our house and we frequently use ground turkey - especially since beef has gotten more expensive.

The corn bread crust sounds like a neat idea.
I've never made my own dough before, that looks soooo good!!!

I've never made it in a casserole before either. It looks very good! I'm going to have to try it.
Looks like a good recipe. A good dipping sauce is to mix together equal parts sour cream and salsa.

Thanks for having the giveaway!

Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back.  Hey neighbors, its with a heavy heart I let you all know that my mom (Lori) unexpectedly passed away the end of June. Our family has been taking the time between now and then to be together and remember what a light mom was. I came on towards the end of last year and was planning on fully moving my interviews and review to this website. I intend to to so partially to keep mommas beautiful website going. Thank you all so much for your love and support over the years. ~Mercy
