Wilton Bake Set R and G

Wonderful day to be out. Still a little too warm, but we can stay under the shade of the trees to visit. Wilton sent me the Open Book Cake pan and the 25 piece Cake Decorating Set. I used to do cakes all the time with my grandmother when I was younger (alot younger!). I actually remember some of the techniques, so we experimented on a cake for Father's Day and we plan on using it for my son's birthday later this week. I had help from my 9 and 13 year old daughters. I showed them samples and then they practiced. You will see in the pictures. We are going to do a Bible verse cake for my son. I will add those pictures too, when we are finished.








The book pan looks like the inside pages of an open book. Ours came out great, but after being played with, I am not sure if it looked like a book when they were finished. The 25 piece Decorating Set comes with 5 decorating tips, 4 icing colors, 12 disposable decorating bags, 2 quick chance coupling tips, the 1 1/4 flower nail, and an illustrated instruction booklet. Let me tell you the colors are much more brilliant when you use the Wilton colors. We used store bought vanilla icing on the Father's Day cake, which really is not stiff enough for decorating. So, we made cupcakes a few days later and I made the icing. I will include some pictures of those too. Most of the decorating came back pretty quickly. With the points in the kit you are able to do writing, bows, ruffles, stars, shells, zig zags and some flowers and leaves.























This is a great basic kit to get someone started decorating or just for family enjoyment. You can decorate cakes, cupcakes, even cookies with the decorating set. And with the cake pan you could do one of your child's favorite books. You can really have some fun and do many different types of cakes. And if you visit the Wilton site you can come up with many other decorating ideas for the Open Book Cake. You can also go to the Wilton Cake and Dessert Decorating 101 page and learn different techniques for using the different tips. It has information on which icing to use, how much color, icing consistency, etc. They have other pages on decorating cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. This is a great information website as well as the place to buy your baking pans and decorating supplies.
