Glee Gum Make Your Own Kit Review and Giveaway!

Hi Neighbors,
Great to see you out At the Fence today! It's beautiful here today! Sun is shining, not too hot! Perfect weather for a visit. Glee Gum sent me their Make Your Own Chewing Gum Kit. (Along with a couple of samples of their gum!) Glee Gum is all natural, so of course their kits are too.

Here is a short history of Verve, the manufacturers of Glee Gum:

"In 1992, the concept for Verve was born when we visited an economically depressed chicle-producing community in Northern Guatemala. Up until then, we had never really thought about how chewing gum was made. When we realized its origins, we learned that prior to the synthetic resins, chicle was the basis of the entire industry. Our goal was to support chicle-harvesting by purchasing chicle. With this goal in mind, Verve was born, and with it our first and most popular product, the Make Your Own Chewing Gum Kit.

Today, Verve provides a sustainable source of income for those communities while simultaneously offering fun, educational, and environmentally friendly activities for kids.

Our pioneering Make Your Own Chewing Gum Kit has captivated the imaginations of thousands of children while helping them to learn more about the world around them. They are often used in classrooms where students are studying rainforest ecology, the history of food production, the chemistry of cooking, and the interconnections in our global community."

First off I have to say that we all liked the samples of Glee Gum. Now on to the Kit. The Chewing Gum kit comes complete with everything you need, other than a rolling pin, or the stove or microwave you need to heat the chicle gum base in. First we had to heat our corn syrup, so it would pour easily. Next we put the chicle gum base in the black microwave safe container and heated it until we could mix it well. Once it had melted enough, we poured in the corn syrup mixture. That is when it really started getting sticky! We poured some of the confectioner's sugar on the counter top and dropped the gum onto it. After dividing it into two balls, we added the flavoring. One was cherry and the other cinnamon. Next you had to roll it out real thin and then cut it into strips, or squares, or however you desire to cut it up. One of my daughters used a water bottle lid to make circle. When you have completed clean up, all that is left is to chew the gum. Everyone agreed it was a hit! This kit was easy to use, directions were very clear, and we had a lot of fun! The directions that come with the kit have some very interesting information on the back regarding Rainforests and Chewing Gum.

Glee Gum is not only all natural, it is "gluten free. It is even certified by the American Vegetarian Association, even though it is not vegan". You need to stop by and read their FAQ page, to find more information like this. Glee Gum is a company to share At the Fence.

Glee Gum has been kind enough to allow me to review their product, but on top of that they are going to allow one of you to choose your own kit to make!

I would have to go with the chocolate one. Iam the only big gum chewer in the house, so even though I think everybody would like making it, I think the chocolate would go over better.

I'm debating between gum and chocolate. I think I'd pick chocolate for my kids (ages 12, 8 & 3) since the 3 year old isn't allowed gum. :-)

I learned from this statement, "At Verve, we believe people learn by doing. By creating delicious edible treats with our kits, kids also create connections to each other, between various fields of studies, and to other communities and cultures." that I agree 100% with their philosophy.

Baby First TV 'I Can Sign" First Words

Hey Neighbors! Here is a really neat gift idea for someone with a young child.  Here we have I Can Sign (First Words) from Baby First  TV.  Now, I am just going to share right here that we have friends who have taught two of their children to sign at a very young age.  And it works!  Their children could sign before they could talk. The Dvd will teach your child many useful words that will be used in day to day life.  Words like: eat, water, milk, cookie, ear, feet hands, kiss, sleep, book, mother, father, and many other words.  Each word is taught in a short video clip where they will see pictures of the word/item and people signing.  There is also a little character at the bottom corner of the video signing along.  The Dvd can be done on English or Spanish.  Also included on the Dvd are printable coloring pages that you can print off by inserting the Dvd into your computer.  Inside the cover of the Dvd case is a little booklet that covers some of the words you and your child

What To Do About Those Fuzzy Uninvited Guests In The Home

When we talk about pests in the home, the most common that we tend to deal with are the creepy-crawlies that find their way in. Ants, termites, and spiders, for instance. Occasionally though, you have a real chance of getting a much bigger, fuzzier unwanted guest in the home. What do you do about the fact your home is at risk of becoming a wildlife sanctuary for some truly unhealthy and even dangerous beasts? Picture by Alexas_Fotos Know the signs It doesn’t matter if you’re in a suburban home, a country cottage, or a fourth-floor apartment. Some animals can find their way just about anywhere. It’s worth knowing the signs of pest infestation so you can confirm it and act on it immediately. Spotting droppings, keeping an ear out for scratching, and looking for signs of nesting like shredded paper, scrunched leaves, and grass clippings around the home without explanation can help you start fighting back.  Hey neighbors, its with a heavy heart I let you all know that my mom (Lori) unexpectedly passed away the end of June. Our family has been taking the time between now and then to be together and remember what a light mom was. I came on towards the end of last year and was planning on fully moving my interviews and review to this website. I intend to to so partially to keep mommas beautiful website going. Thank you all so much for your love and support over the years. ~Mercy
