Ellie Claire Journals

Hey Neighbors!!

I wanted to share these Ellie Claire Journals with you all.  These would make a super holiday gift idea for friends and loved ones.  If you are doing a secret sister or gift exchange take a moment to read about these unique journals.

The first one is The Illustrated Word.  This is my least favorite, only because the pictures themselves are not my style.  It has 40 illustrations as coloring pages (adult), mixed in with beautiful colored illustrations from the Archives of the Museum of the Bible, along with the journaling pages.  The book is hardback and well-made, which means you will be able to treasure it for years and perhaps pass it on to your children.

Next, I have the Faith & Lettering Journal.  This book was designed by Krystal Whitten, who is a graphic designer.  In this journal, not only are there journaling pages, but there are many pages where you are taught the art of lettering.  I love that they do this and spend time on teaching you how to do your own lettering.  This book is also hardback and should last for years to come.  It also has an elastic band on the spine to hold your journaling pen. A very beautiful and inspiring book.

The last book is, Illuminate Your Story Journal.  This journal is slightly smaller than the other two but is still a hardback journal.  It has a ribbon for marking your spot, as well as the elastic band on the side to hold your pen.  It also has a small pocket on the back bookend to store small, flat keepsakes and an elastic strap for holding the journal closed.  The book itself is full of Bible verses (not KJV) and quotes to inspire you, as well as instructions on how to make the beautiful illuminated lettering.  The instructions are clear and easy to follow.  The first few pages give you information regarding illuminated lettering.  Out of the three, this is my favorite and I will be gifting this to one of my daughters.  This is also a Museum of the Bible Book.

All three journals are available on EllieClaire.com.  They range in price from $15.99-$18.99.  Be sure to visit the website, as there are many other journals as well as bookmarks and devotionals available. I highly recommend these books for your own use, but as beautiful holiday gifts as well.

Working From Home

Hey neighbors!!

Many of you know that I am a stay at home mom, who works from home.  I have always been amazed at many of the women I know who also work from home whether it is starting up a new business, working as a representative for a company or finding some type of employment that allows you to stay at home.

Sometimes with young children, it can be difficult to find the time to try and run a business from the home while properly taking care of your family, but I believe it can be done.  You just have to carefully schedule your time, and be flexible enough that you can change that schedule as needed.  Obviously, if your child needs attention you are not going to work on a project that needs your full attention.

The internet has made it easier for that mom who wants to stay at home to still be able to make money through some form of business.  Let's look at a few of the ways you can work from home.

First you can join as a representative for the companies that have party plans.  It used to mean you had to schedule a couple nights a week to host a party in someone's home.  Now we have the ability to host an online party.  This allows the party to actually reach more people because those who live in a different city or state can still participate and order products.  There are many different types of party plans to join, from books, toys, candles, essential oils, food, and clothing.

Another option is transcribing.  My daughter transcribes and makes a regular income through online transcribing.  She took a test and passed and she quickly found she had the ability to improve her speed and thus earn a little more through some special jobs they offer.

Perhaps you have the ability to create your own product for sale.  If you know how to knit or crochet, you can try selling to friends and locals, as well as you could open an Etsy shop where you can then ship to people.  This would also work for someone who sews, embroiders, or creates t-shirts.  I have purchased from someone who creates food and drinks for dolls.  A friend of the family purchased the machines needed for making vinyl wall signs.

My other daughter does photography.  This does require leaving the home for the actual photo shoots, but then she does all her editing at home and her customers can then view the finished photo online and download them to be printed.

Blogging can also be a fun way to work from home.  You need to find a niche and build from there.  Another of my daughters has a blog where she interviews actors and actresses, singers and songwriters, and authors.  I have been amazed by the number of people she has been able to interview.  Once you have a following, you can find many different ways to monetize your blog.

I know there are many other ways for a woman to have a business of her own. Please share any ideas you have in the comments below.  Of course, each one of these will take work and commitment.  You are going to have to set goals for yourself and continue to change them as your business grows. You can see how Nancy at Behrman started her business and became a leader in health and lifestyle brand publicity.

Thanks for stopping by!! See you again soon!

Why Digital Pianos are Better Than Traditional Ones

Playing the piano is a talent that can last a lifetime. When you go into a music store Boston musicians will tell you that there are quite a few benefits to a digital piano over a traditional one.

You Can Use Headphones

Sometimes, there’s the desire to practice without letting others hear you. It may be a new piece or you simply don’t want to disturb the neighbors. Whatever the situation may be, you can plug headphones into the digital piano before you play. Then, only you can hear the music that you’re creating.

The Feel is Similar to an Upright Piano

In the past, many people avoided keyboards because they felt it was nothing like playing a real piano. However, the technology of a digital piano has improved drastically. You can get an 88-key keyboard. Plus, the keys are weighted so that it’s just like playing a real piano. Even the most experienced pianists will enjoy playing on a digital piano.

It’s Portable

Whether you want to take your piano to a gig with you or simply move it from room to room, it’s much easier to do when it’s digital. Otherwise, you may find yourself hiring a mover every time you want to change the location of your piano in the house.
There are various models available, just like with traditional pianos. By going into a music store, you can see which model fits your needs as well as your budget. It will make it easier for you to create music without being tied down with a traditional upright piano. It may be just what you need to add some versatility while learning an amazing instrument.

Spiritual Support for Daily Struggles and Questions

Life today can present enormous challenges for even the most well-adjusted and prepared individuals. When you find yourself confronted with struggles and questions that you cannot cope with or answer on your own, you might want to connect with a resource that will offer you the support and resolutions you need. Rather than reach out to a secular organization, you might feel more comfortable communicating with an online church, prayer group, or christian women's fellowship today.

Testimonials of Others Before you reach out to the organization, you might want to know what others think about it. Did they have a good experience with the support services there? Were all of their concerns and questions addressed in a timely and satisfactory manner? Rather than second guess your decision, you can get the reassurance you need by viewing the testimonials of others. The testimonials are available in video format so you can listen and watch them at your convenience. They are real-life stories of people who have utilized the organization for spiritual support services and continue to network with the group for fellowship and worship. After you view the testimonials of others who have used the organization and continue to network with it, you might feel more at ease about reaching out yourself.

You can use the online email form to request prayers or simply vent about circumstances in your life. Online Form The online form that the group makes available is simple to fill out and designed to be discreet. You only have to put down your first name if you choose before you go into some detail about what kinds of prayers you would like to receive. Having your name helps the group personalize their prayers and ask for them specifically for you. There is also a field where you can go into detail about what is going on in your life and what kinds of prayers you need. You can vent and include details about what frightens or confuses you. You can then submit the prayer form with the knowledge that others will start praying for you right away.

Jewelry Keepsakes and a Giveaway!!

Neighbors!!

I just have to share this beautiful necklace I received from Jewelry Keepsakes!  It is beautiful!  They design photo pendants.  They take your photo and place them on a pendant.  What a GREAT holiday gift idea!  One of the reasons I really love this pendant is because it is textured.  You can feel the engraved photo.  Please excuse what looks like white flecks in the photos.  It is actually the texture showing up, and I could not get a picture that did not reflect off the texture.  I am going to treasure this pendant over the years to come!

Jewelry Keepsakes has several different photo pendant choices.  There are hearts, ovals, circles, rectangles, dog tags and many more to choose from.  Many of the pendants are embellished around the edges, but there are plain ones too.

You can choose the photo you wish to have engraved on the pendant and they will crop it to get exactly what you want to be engraved.  The beauty is that the engraving in done on a white, textured background.  The engraving is in color, so you capture your photo on your pendant.  I was so impressed with the results.  My daughters love the way you can feel the design.  Below is the picture I chose to have on my pendant.

Everything is done in house, so the process is much quicker than if they had to send it out somewhere else.  Same day engraving means a faster delivery too!  The pendants come with a quality 20" chain.  I did have a small problem with the chain, not in quality, but it easily tangled in my daughter's hair and we had to clip it out.  She has baby fine hair so I do not know if that contributed to the problem or not.  Remember it is easy to use a different chain, which I will be doing, but you can not beat the quality of the pendant.

Jewelry Keepsakes has been kind enough to offer us a giveaway to one of our readers!!  Be sure to enter below to have a chance at winning a color, photo pendant of their choice.  Additionally, you get the option of sending in your photo and allowing the engraver to give you a couple of options of what will look best for your particular picture.

So, neighbors, let's get going and see who wins this wonderful giveaway!! Thank you for stopping by today!!!

Managing Your Finances When Pursuing Higher Education

When you head to college, you want to focus fully on your studies. But many first time students make the mistake of forgetting that they are still living in the real world and this means that they still need to manage their finances responsibly in order to avoid slipping into major debt and in order to maintain a good quality of life during their studies and in the period once they have graduated and may take a little while to find work. Here’s a little advice that could help you to achieve this!

Work Around Your Studies
People tend to assume that you will not be able to work around your classes. This would make higher education an impractical pursuit for most, as you still have to make money in order to survive, regardless of whether you are studying or not. However, nowadays, increasing numbers of educational institutions are providing more flexible learning options that make it possible to work and take courses at the same time. Here are just a couple that you might like to consider!

Online Courses
The first option you might like to consider is taking part in an online course. This form of distance learning is gathering a whole lot of popularity. Studying online means that you don’t have to attend classes on campus to gain your degree. You can wave goodbye to worrying about having to head to make seminars or lectures at specific times and on specific days! Instead, you can study online around other commitments. This gives you a better opportunity to fit education into your current schedule, as all you will need to study is access to a laptop or desktop computer and an internet connection. There are all sorts of courses available, from online healthcare administration degree programs to online degrees in nursing! So, browse your options and see whether any stand out for you.

Part Time Courses
If you find that you do work better in a classroom setting and you want to get involved with higher education on campus, there’s always the option of a part-time course. This will take twice as long to complete as a full-time course. Generally speaking, a part-time bachelors will take six to eight years to complete and a part-time masters degree will take three to four years to complete. But studying in this manner allows you to reduce your weekly workload, giving you time to study around other events and responsibilities in your life.

Budgeting
When you are studying, you will probably find yourself with a slightly lower income than you are used to. On top of this, you will frequently have to fork out for course related fees. This is why budgeting becomes even more important than usual. You can find a great guide to student budgeting here.

Sure, finances may be relatively dull. But it’s essential that you keep on top of them, especially when you’re pursuing a higher education!

Children and Finances

Hey neighbors!!

Beautiful weather outside today! I have been enjoying the fall temperatures and watching the leaves change color and fall.  The dogs are also enjoying the outside!  Now I am back inside, so while I have a few minutes, I wanted to write about children and finances.

Many of you who have been following us here, At the Fence, know that I have 6 children.  The youngest just turned 18.  How time flies! It was important to me as they were growing up, that they learned about how to handle their money.  When they were young they received an allowance, just for helping around the home.  As they got older we required them to do certain chores, just because they were part of the family and work is necessary.  At that point we had extra chores they could do to earn money.  Sometimes it was cleaning the car, doing yard work, helping with painting a room, or any extra chore that needed to be done.  Dishes, doing their own laundry and cleaning their bedrooms, were just things they were supposed to do without pay.  As they became teenagers, they would mow lawns, rake leaves, and babysit to increase their earnings.

So, they had a way to earn money, next we had to teach them about how to handle their money.  There are courses available that teach children how to handle their money and we even had a piggy bank that was separated in different sections. One was for donating, one for saving, one for investing and the last was for spending.  Money Savvy also has a course for teens called Official Money Guide for Teenagers.  We personally believe in giving, to the church and to other believers in need, so this was what we taught them the donate was for.  We often chose a missionary they had met to give to.

Another thing was to teach them to save up for larger items, rather than going into debt.  In today's society, all too often, we pull out a credit card and purchase an item, that if we just saved for a couple of months it would actually be cheaper than being charged interest. We decided we would sit down and work out the cost of the item they wanted to purchase and show them how much they had to save each week and how long it would take to earn the item.  Occasionally we would purchase an item if it was on sale or on clearance and then hold it until they had saved enough to pay for the item.  This was how we taught them to stay away from credit card debt.

Some of us as adults have never been taught how to handle our finances.  In this case, we can learn from someone else, or learn from costly mistakes.  Chase Rubin is there to help people with their finances.

My oldest daughter is a nanny.  My next daughter does transcribing.  One son is a loan officer at a credit union, while to other is in the military and presently pursuing a career in law enforcement.  Then my next daughter is a budding photographer, and the youngest has a blog where she interviews singers, actors, actresses, authors and such. Each one of them has learned about finances and is presently working toward goals.

What tips can you share with us?  Please leave a comment below.
