Where Can You Gain Inspiration For Your Home’s Interior Design Upgrades?

With a new year upon us, there’s never been a better time to think about the home and how you can make it an even happier environment in 2018 and beyond. Before putting those plans into practice, though, your first job is to gain a vision of what you wish the property to look like.

There are several useful places which can provide this inspiration. Here are some of the best options at your disposal.

TV & Media
Home improvements are big business. As such, they are a hot topic for TV shows, magazine articles, and general media content. This makes them the perfect resource to pick up ideas on the latest trends and styles.

While some sources will tell you solely about things you can buy, there are plenty of guides available too. These ideas can be very useful when trying to improve your DIY game. After all, inspiration isn’t just about finding items with the right appearance. Financial responsibility and making your money work harder is equally vital.
Of course, it’s important to stamp your personality on those products too. Still, there’s no doubt that the media is a great starting point when formulating your ideas. Ultimately, there is a reason why those items have become so popular.

Other Homes
Most people will visit showrooms and interior design outlets during their planning stages. This is one of the best ways to gain insight into the products that are currently available, as well as the pricing. But your ventures shouldn't end there.
In truth, you should also want to see items in person. One of the best ways to do this is by booking property viewings in the local area. As explained by The Balance, you needn’t even use an agent. This means that you won’t even need to waste anybody’s time. If moving is a possibility at some stage, these experiences are a positive thing.

Try to choose properties with similar dimensions to yours for greater results. Meanwhile, looking at the photographs on local listings can be useful too. Seeing ideas in a practical environment rather than a store offers a far fairer reflection.

On Vacation
The thought of decorating and upgrading the home can be quite daunting, and there will be some stressful moments. Getting away to recharge the batteries could be very rewarding on an emotional level. However, it could also aid your hunt for ideas.
Hotels tend to embrace modern and stylish touches. Staying at places like the Park City Marriott gives you a chance to gain inspiration while creating magical memories on a short break. Whether it’s picking up ideas on color schemes or feature items, bringing those vibes into the home can only work wonders. Besides, nobody needs an excuse for a short vacation.

On a separate note, the visit offers a chance to pick up decorative souvenirs that will brighten the home while adding sentimental value. Once you return, you’ll also be refreshed and ready to complete those transformations.

Less Can Be More When it Comes To Storage Space

When it comes to living standards, many people want to have it all. Yet, why shouldn’t you be able to live a life in your own home where you can solve all your problems no matter how small or large they are? Like the old saying goes, an Englishman’s home is his castle. Even if you’re not English, the phrase still applies to you too. This is why manufacturers and companies all across the world are constantly thinking of new solutions to even the most nitpicky of issues home owners regularly find themselves wrestling with. There’s simply a wave of products you can buy that will take away the clutter that comes with having young children, hide away an overabundance of various items like glasses, coasters, books, cutlery and just about anything you can think of. There’s no reason why you can’t have as many things as you’d like, as home storage space comes in many different forms.

Enough Clinking and Clanging
One thing that almost every family in the world can share a laugh about is the over-accumulation of cutlery that seems to occur over the years. One day you open your drawer where you store all your forks, knives and spoons and every slot is filled to the brim. If you’re even having trouble re-closing the drawer, it's time to consider a compact cutlery organizer. The trouble is, as the slots in the drawer overflow they bash into the countertop lip. With a cutlery organizer, each utensil goes neatly into its own pocket, saving space as well as collating among its rightful grouping. It instantly declutters a kitchen and takes away a little bit of unneeded stress. No more bashing of metal cutlery that causes scratches and scrapes will occur with this sort of helpful item.

Vertical in the Kitchen
Many families find that because they have so many plates, they end using space that would otherwise be useful for something else. Cupboards, where you could store something else like a vacuum or a pet’s toy box, is taken up by mountains of plates. Running out of horizontal space is no way near the end of the matter because there are kitchen storage units that transcend upward. With such units, you can store plates vertically, one on top of the other. The products are made out of metal and thus can handle the weight of the multiple plates being stacked on top of each other as well as rows upon themselves too. You can go for the heavy duty route if needed with a shelf organizer that provides compartments for easy storage. There are glass options if you want to remain a little stylish in the process. There’s also an underbed which could be useful for storing some of your more highly priced plates reserved for important guests.

You may just think you have less and less space for storing your kitchen items. That’s not the case if you’re clever with how you sort and organize your items. Keeping them compact, closer together while avoiding them bashing into each other is entirely possible with modern storage solutions. If you’ve run out of cupboards and drawers, think vertical storage instead.

Time To Move? Don't Panic, We Have It All Covered

(image: https://www.pexels.com/photo/home-real-estate-106399/)

Congratulations on that house offer having finally been accepted!

Moving is one of the most stressful things you will ever experience. Luckily you will only have to do it once or twice, but research suggests the average individual moves up to eight times in their lifetime. If you have done it before, you will know that this comes with its own stress and tension, that can be likely to spring up between you, your partner and even your kids.

If you haven’t moved previously, you are in for an experience in a league of its own. Don’t worry, like everything else, moving also gets easier the more you do it and as a result, you should start seeing this experience as something beneficial rather than a hindrance. The below guide will help you with some of the main aspects of moving, so read carefully.

The Move
Nothing is more exciting than having all your stuff packed and boxed in your old living room. The date has finally arrived and you are about to load all your belongings into your friend’s van. Until that is, you discover that the size of the van is rather small and you definitely won’t be able to fit all the boxes in. Being in an already stressful situation, you don’t want to make moving a worse one by relying on a friend to help you move. Even if the size is right, moving should be done by professionals and that is why you should get a little help from those who move stuff for others for a living. These are some of the moving companies to look out for.

The New Neighborhood
Arriving at your new destination and stretching out on the naked floor with a cup of coffee can be tempting, and in fact, this might be what you want to do all day long until your stuff is sorted and the decluttering process has finished. It is, however, important to familiarize yourself with your new surroundings and whilst you should be doing this gradually, you nonetheless must start getting acquainted with your new home and what it has to offer early on in the process. Make sure you befriend your neighbours by offering them a cup of tea or inviting them to your housewarming party.

The Surroundings
How exciting! You have now finished unpacking and are ready to start living life in your new home. Why not spend the first few days organizing outdoor trips in order for you and your family to settle into your surroundings? Activities like going to a restaurant, watching a movie at your local cinema or going for long walks will help you get acquainted with your new town. Adapting oneself to a new environment is never easy, so make sure you do this gradually. Your immune system might even have weakened in recent weeks due to the stress of moving, so take it easy at first and make sure you get plenty of sleep and eat the right amount of vitamins to help you stay healthy whilst exploring your new town.

Being Your Active Self: How You Can Do It

Let’s be honest, it isn’t easy being active each day. We all know that it is so much better for us to have some form of healthy and active lifestyle, not over indulging too much with the junk or sugary foods, exercising a few times a week and generally taking good care of ourselves. However, it can be quite difficult to maintain this sort of lifestyle and with the recent holiday period now in the past, it is fair to say that many of us will be feeling less than our best when it comes to our energy levels and our waistlines. Which is why I thought I would share with you some of the top tips to help you become more active generally on a day to day basis. I hope it inspires you to become your best active self.

Setting Realistic Targets
Now is the time when many people set themselves targets for losing weight or getting more fit, partially because they may have set themselves a goal as part of the new year resolutions. It is also just as important to set yourself realistic targets to help you achieve that ultimate goal. You won’t lose a lot of weight over night, and you certainly won’t go from running nothing to a marathon within a week. You can set smaller obtainable goals for yourself, that will not only help you stay on track, but also keep you motivated to succeed in the long term. Resolutions should always be for long term gain, not short term failings. So ensure you keep everything in mind when you embark on the active lifestyle. Start off small, maybe walking somewhere instead of driving or choosing to be more active each day. You can slowly build this up over time.

Being Active Doesn’t Mean Daily Gym Sessions
Many people associate being more active with heading to the gym, but the truth is, gym sessions aren't for everyone. Some people feel motivated and pumped up in a gym environment, others can feel overwhelmed. So find something that works for you. Walking your dog, going for a run locally, or joining local fitness sessions within the community can all be great ways to stay active and increase your fitness levels without the worry or pressure of going to a gym.

Having the Right Gear and Equipment
It is all well and fine having the best intentions to make a your fitness dreams become a reality, but if you don’t have the right gear and equipment to help you do it, the journey can end as quick as it started. Therefore, you must invest in the right activewear and equipment to help you succeed. From the right running shoes to protect from injury to custom baseball uniforms to help you or others feel part of the team, make sure you do yourself a favour and invest in the right things first time. Not only does the right gear help you feel good, but it can also help you succeed and keep you safe from injury.

I hope that these ideas help you get more active in the new year.

Flint Rollers Perfect Gift Idea

Hey neighbors!!

Flint rollers make a great small gift idea.  I am pretty excited about them for my daughters.  These little gadgets retract inside a decorative tube, which makes them perfect for travel, to toss in your purse or gym bag.  They won't stick to everything in your purse, and you wont't have to tear off the outer layer because it got dirty bouncing around in your gym bag. ($7.99 - $14.99)  You can also purchase refills on their site. ($3.00 - $5.00)

The Flint rollers come in many different designs, so you are sure to find one for just about anyone.  You simply twist the base and the the lint roller comes out the top.  When you are done, push down on the roller until it is back inside the cover.  Just like normal when the outside sheet gets too dirty, peel it back and tear it off.  Another nice benefit is that Flint rollers are refillable.

My daughters take several small trips each year, including a cruise, and these Flint lint rollers will be traveling with them.  They can pack them in their bathroom bags, and toss one in their purses.  This way they will be ready to remove lint or pet hair any time.

Be sure to follow Flint on their social media pages.

The Flint rollers will make a great gift idea for parents, dog and cat owners, business men, etc. Be sure to grab a couple for stocking stuffers.

Beautiful Outside As Well As Inside

If you are planning to sell your home, you will surely have already read all about giving your house the curb appeal it needs to tempt in prospective buyers. But what about if you have found the house of your dreams and it needs a revamp to get it back to its original beauty?

The process for making the outside of your house as beautiful as the inside is exactly the same, whether you are trying to sell or want to restore your happily ever after home to its former glory. It’s simply a case of knowing where to start and how to allocate your budget wisely.

The Roof
Making sure that your roof is in perfect working condition is just as important as it looking good. The roof isn’t just a nice hat that encloses the four walls, it is also an ideal space for adding extra insulation, it keeps out water and it also keeps you safe in storms. This means that choosing the right type of roof is vital for its longevity.

Commercial roofing contractors NJ will be able to advise you on the best materials to replace your roof, such as shingles or something more alternative like aluminium. These materials won’t just protect your house from the weather, they could also be a way to make an architectural statement and do something really different.
The Walls
To make your walls feel brighter and cleaner, a pressure washer should usually do the trick. This will blast away any dirt that has accumulated and will restore your bricks or siding to its original glory. It may be a messy job, but pressure washing is something that you can do yourself quite cheaply and efficiently if you rent the equipment.
Once the walls are clean, you might want to consider adding a colored render to give your walls a sleeker look. This is quite a personal choice, but is very popular on modern buildings, especially with people who are already fans of minimalism. There are lots of colors to choose from, but be wary of choosing bright white as you may find it is mud colored again within a few weeks! An off-white tone is usually a safer choice.
The Yard
Now that the house itself is looking much better, it’s time to turn to the yard. Lots of people tend to leave their yard space as a simple lawn with a border around the edges, but even with children, it is possible to achieve something a little more exciting. Trees will bring height to your yard, and if you are already fortunate enough to have an older tree, a swing is always a charming addition.

Adding garden furniture will give the sensation that this space is something more like an outdoor room and there is nothing like feasting under a large umbrella while the sun is shining. You could also consider introducing deck chairs and even string a hammock between two well cemented posts for the ultimate garden luxury.

Tech Your Home To The Next Level

Image

Millennials, also known as the wired generation, are off buying houses. How mad is that? It also brings in a lot of home technology advancements. With a generation so used to having the world at their fingertips, with having technology as part of every bit of their lives, it only makes sense that, as they start buying homes, the techniverse keeps up with them. Automatic coffee machines, fridges that let you when you’re out of milk, pet video chat? Let’s be honest; if we were offered it all tomorrow, we would go for it!

Talking Fridge
Want to make a new recipe, just ask the fridge to download it. Hands full with cooking dinner but have run out of an ingredient? Ask the fridge to add it to the shopping list. Kids can draw on it, and you can video chat while cooking. You can even see what’s in the fridge without having to open it. It’s like living in a castle which is why the talking fridge is definitely the list of awesome tech.

Singing Bath
Continuing on with the real-life creation of an ultimate castle - let's have a bath that serenades us. Well, it plays our pre-downloaded playlists, but the sound waves mixed with the warm water creates the ultimate relaxation tool by implementing hydrotherapy into your bathtime.

Smart Lock
Along with the new age group, home surveillance camera, the tech world has come up with the smart lock. It connects to Siri and only opens at the sound of your voice. No more keys - no more losing your keys. However, you could still lose your phone, or let the charge die...

Mr Coffee
This one is the perfect addition to this list. A wifi coffee machine. Who could ask for more? You can lazily flip it on from your bed, lounge about until the delicious aroma wafts up to you. Drift downstairs, and there it is, waiting for you. No more spilling grounds everywhere, or dumping too much milk into the mix because you’re half asleep still. It would be the perfect gift to yourself.

Pet Feeder
You know those days when you have to work late, or you get caught in traffic on the way home, and you feel so bad because little Fido is at home waiting for dinner? Well, not anymore! The automatic pet feeder measures out the perfect portion and dispenses it at the right time. It’s also great for when you’re on vacation, that way fluffy is still going to get her kibble at the right time, and not have to wait for the neighbour to pop in to feed her.

Pet-cam
And, while you’re making sure your furry friend is getting fed at the right time, you can also check in on them. Ever wonder what your pets do while you’re not there? Here’s your chance to find out. A pet webcam allows you to call them from afar, see what they’re up to and even give them a treat for being so darn cute. You can even get toy attachments so that you can interact with them more than just staring at them through your phone.

Swap Discomfort For Deep Sleep With This Bedroom Makeover Guide

If you spend more time rolling over trying to get comfortable than you do sleeping in your bed, then it’s time for a change. Actually, it’s quite urgent that you make changes now to avoid ill health. A lack of sleep can be quite dangerous. If you choose to drive your car tired, it can be dangerous for others too. So get up from under the covers, grab your dressing gown, and let’s get started with a bedroom makeover.

Temperature
What’s the temperature in your bedroom? One of the biggest causes of light sleeping or difficulty falling asleep is the wrong temperature. It should be quite cool in your room. Don’t turn up the AC so high you can see your breath, but do keep the temperature a couple of degrees cooler than other rooms in your house. Typically, this means a room temperature of about 18 to 19 degrees Celsius.

Keep the sun out of the room to keep it cool. Image source

Now consider your comforter, blanket or duvet. Will that make you too warm, or leave you feeling chilly? Pick the right weight of bedding to suit your choice of nightwear and the temperature in the room. You don’t want to get sweaty in the night, and you don’t want to end up shivering. And yes, it is perfectly acceptable to have your own blankets and your sleeping partner to have his.

Light
No light should be in your bedroom when you’re ready to fall asleep. It shouldn’t be absolutely dark in there, but there should be no light sources. This includes light from the street. Passing car headlights can easily disturb your sleep. The best option here is a blackout blind or very heavy lined curtains.

You should also avoid using blue lights in your bedroom. These might come from decorations, or even from your TV or phone. Lights of this color tend to keep us awake. They can promote a release of hormones that the brain and body use to waken in the morning! Chances are these aren’t helpful for falling asleep.

Quiet
Shut your bedroom door, but only if you need to so you can block out intrusive noises. It’s nice to let the air flow freely when you’re asleep. A closed door can lead to stuffy or stale air. This does not promote restful or restorative sleep. If you’re a bit of an insomniac, you might actively be looking for distractions from falling asleep. Noises from music, cars, or TVs can make you tune your ear and attention in. This won’t help you fall asleep at all.

Sometimes it’s best to pick a different bedroom for some quiet. Image source

Keep your room as quiet as possible. When we’re asleep, we tend to notice noises less, but a sudden sound can wake us. This feels horrible so avoid it if possible. Add secondary glazing if you live near a road. Shut the internal doors if you have noisy housemates. Cover your ears with your blanket to cut out intrusive sounds.

Body Comfort
There are many ways to prepare your body for sleep. All of them involve relaxing the muscles and giving the skeleton a chance to stretch out to release tension. Light stretching early in the day can be a great way to energise and refresh the body. The stretches help the muscles relax and tone. The breathing brings fresh oxygen into the body. All of this helps your body and mind to feel good for sleep at bedtime.

A warm bath also works very well to relax the body. Warming up in the water, then rapidly cooling when you come out helps to trigger the mind and body for sleep. Lay in bed in a comfortable position to read a few pages of a favorite book. This gives your spine a chance to elongate again and should help to reduce pain and discomfort in the muscles and joints.

It’s essential to stay comfortable all night. Image source

The mattress itself is a major part of sleep. There are several different types. Some are sprung with coils. This can offer a good bounce, but if your sleeping partner moves about a lot, it can disturb your sleep. Memory foam is designed to hold your body in a natural position. This can offer a great deal of comfort. There are more of these to choose from so you might find a detailed review of the Lull Bed here quite helpful. Others offer a mixture of types to offer the best of both worlds. Of course, they also share the disadvantages of each type.

Pain
If you suffer from pain that is worsened at night, then consider speaking to a medical professional. Most doctors are very concerned by anything that prevents you from getting a full night of quality sleep. Pain will stop you from getting comfortable. This, in turn, stops your body and mind from relaxing enough to fall asleep. Some pain is so severe it can wake you from your sleep too.

Lots of causes of pain can be identified by your doctor. In some cases, this gives you the opportunity to fix the problem. Others take more time. The more you sleep, the better your condition should get as sleep offers cell regeneration and healing. Some pain can be relieved by altering your sleeping position. This can be achieved by adding a bed bolster or using pillows to elevate parts of your body. They can be used to stop you rolling onto the affected area too.

Many pains in muscles and joints can be helped by gently moving and exercising every day. This can improve mobility and promote better circulation. This can help promote healing as well as a reduction in the discomfort. Choose a bed that is at an appropriate height to allow you to get in and out with ease. Keep a bedside cabinet close so you can easily reach a light or drink of water.

Finishing Touches
Choose decor that is soft in color to help promote relaxation. Lighting should be gentle and dim rather than bright and stark. Finally, add a comfortable chair so you can easily change for bed without aggravating the pain. All of these should help you feel comfortably relaxed all night long.

Decorating Your Home with Natural Materials

When you consider the concept of a home, the reality of the situation may surprise you. These structures are designed to shelter and protect you from the elements, keeping the outside world at bay, while also giving you somewhere to keep your possessions without them getting ruined. This makes it quite strange, then, that people work hard to bring the outside right back in. How exactly is this sort of approach achieved in the modern world, though?

Wood has long held the crown for the single most popular building material out there. Of course, in most applications, people don’t choose to leave their wood looking natural. Instead, they will be painted or covered with a veneer, hiding the natural look of the wood. Companies like Corndell furniture don’t take this approach, though, instead choosing to use finishes which bring out their wood’s inherent appeal. Each different kind of wood will offer a different feel. It can be worth doing plenty of research to make sure you’re choosing the best for you.

Next, it’s time to think about the furniture and accessories which use other types of materials. For many people, leather may not be a go-to option.  A leather sofa will be hard wearing and beautiful for years to come, while also being very comfortable surrounded by your other natural furniture. For those looking to avoid materials like leather, natural fabrics like cotton and wool can also be a very good option.

(Image Link)

It’s hard to talk about a natural home without considering the plants you have around. A plant is a great addition to any room, giving it new life and beauty. It will break up the order and linear nature found in most human-made design, contributing something different and adding some flair to your rooms. Many homes lack the addition of plants but this is a shame as this sort of decor can give a new look to your rooms. There are plenty of different varieties of plants out there which all give something different to the space around them. Bonsai trees are very popular but they require a lot of care and attention to keep them alive for a long time. Instead, you could consider getting something which is easier to manage.

Finally, this last option will be free for most people, and is something you can get started with right away. Natural light is one of the best ways to make a room feel bigger and more open. Materials usually show their very best qualities when they’re under the light. This is especially true for most natural ones. Keeping your curtains and blinds open will let large amounts of light into your home. And, this is something which can be done for absolutely no money at all.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start working towards a home with more natural touches. Not a lot of people go for this sort of approach with their home. Instead, they will simply buy factory made furniture and be happy with the options available. But, to have a home unique to you, it’s important to put the effort into it.

2017 Holiday Gift Guide : Blooming Baby Seat Insert

Hey, Neighbors!

Today I have yet another product that will make life with your little one a little easier!  Some of you may be familiar with the Blooming Bath-- the plush petals that conform to any sink for a more comfortable bathing experience.

Let me tell you a little bit about how the Blooming Bath got it's start..
"Eric Devericks was a professional cartoonist. Brian Pond designed golf putters. David Morelock loved to surf. And Tom Morris was a proud geek. The four friends couldn't have been more different. But they all had one thing in common: They were dads - and they prided themselves on being good ones.
Change a diaper? No sweat. Soothe a screaming newborn? Right away. Pull a splinter? Kiss a boo-boo? Laugh at really bad knock-knock jokes? Of course.
But there was another thing they had in common - experience with a chore that really shouldn't be a chore.
"When your baby's so soapy and slippery and squirmy and when you're trying to bend over a tub or keep them in place in the sink - frankly, it just takes a lot of the enjoyment out of a moment that should be such a great time" Morelock said.
Together, the four fathers co-founded the new company. And after more than a year of hard work, they rolled out their first product: Blooming Bath. The flower-shaped bath pillow conforms to the shape of any sink - and keeps those little wiggle worms right where they belong. It's durable, easy to clean and unbelievably adorable."

However I'm not here to talk about their Blooming Bath, I'm here to share with you about one of their other products, the Blooming Baby Seat Insert!  A great idea that was formed from how some parents were using their Blooming Bath.

Now how many times have you been at a friends house or restaurant with children and they haven't had a high chair?  There are so many instances where this could be useful.. shopping carts, swings, baby activity centers, etc.  This makes it possible for younger babies to be put in seats that they normally couldn't use.  This Blooming Baby Seat Insert can be used in chairs, shopping carts, baby swings at parks, even high chairs at restaurants.

The seat insert is velvety soft to touch, and the cushion is squishy and comfortable but still quite firm enough to support your child.  The insert will strap to just about any chair/seat you can think of.  This is going to be so helpful for Baby B.  The seat comes with a strap in the back to secure the insert to a chair, swing, or shopping cart.  This will keep the seat in place.  The insert also has an adjustable strap in the front to keep your baby nestled right in where they belong.  A toy strap secures baby's toy, so they won't keep dropping it on the floor.  The Blooming Baby Seat Insert is designed with a support pillow, that assists in keeping baby's back and neck supported and comfortable.  You can easily clean the Plush Baby Seat Insert by tossing in your washer and then drying on low heat.

The seat is designed for infants 5 months and up.  Simply lay the Seat Insert flat, lay your child on the Insert and secure the straps.  Then just pick your child up and place them in the seat, shopping cart, etc. and secure the rear strap.  So easy to use.

Head on over to the Blooming Baby website to purchase a Blooming Bath or Seat Insert of your own.  You can also Like them on Facebook and Follow them on Twitter to stay up to date with their latest news!  Blooming Baby also gave me a coupon code for my readers!  Use the code : flower20 for 20% off your order!

Get A Rung Up Not Hung Up When Getting On The Property Ladder

Image

Buying a house has historically been a good investment and, despite the much-publicized issues in the US Housing Market, purchasing a property still has many advantages.

Taking out a mortgage to buy your first home can be difficult in the current market due to disproportionately high prices to wages, and of course, mortgage costs fluctuate with interest rates. In general, however, mortgages tend to become more comfortable to pay over time as your life circumstances even out and your income is expected to rise.

If you are considering buying your own home, here are a few tips which may be able to help.

Dazzle With A Deposit
Putting aside money for a deposit must be considered a priority. The more substantial deposit you have to bargain with, the more confidence that lenders will have in you, allowing more flexibility as to what they will offer. The issue is, this may take time. It is worth dedicating yourself to watching your spending, and cutting costs where you can to make it happen sooner. With house prices currently levelling off, this may be a perfect time.

Parent Power
It may be an option for you to borrow the money from your parents but many people are uncomfortable to do so. This is because parents may be in the position to release some equity from their own home to provide you with the deposit and for some, this is the only hope of ever raising enough to make it onto the first rung of the ladder. Many parents are willing to do this to help, understanding how difficult it is in the current climate for their offspring to purchase a home.

Get By With A Little Help From Your Friends
Who said you have to do this alone? For young singles, it is becoming more and more popular to purchase a house with a friend by combining your income. In the case of a mortgage, two wages are better than one as many young people do not have sufficient income to do it alone. You must, however, consider the negatives. You will only own 50% of your home, and if, at any time, you were to fall out with your friend, it may make for an awkward living situation as well as a financial one.

Consider a Work In Progress
Consider buying a fixer-upper home and look at your new pad as more of a project and potentially a lucrative investment. One of the biggest pros of investing in a fixer-upper is the price, which should be substantially below the potential value due to it needing work. Another key advantage is the chance make the place your own from the get-go, a dream for many first time buyers. Add to that, if your DIY skills are up to the job you could save a fortune on contractors, though it’s worth taking advice at the start.

Reduce by Relocating
House prices in some areas are much lower than others. If you are willing to relocate, then you can make buying a house a real possibility. It’s worth remembering that you can make a house your home and it doesn't mean a more desirable area is out of reach forever. Just because the housing is cheaper, it doesn't say you aren't buying good quality. It may only be that the more expensive abodes have a closer proximity to a school or other premium demanding amenities. Do your research and be thorough when checking average house prices in different areas.

Buying a house is a huge commitment, so thorough independent advice should always be sought before taking the plunge.

Major Winter Home Disasters & How To Avoid Them

From

Owning a home is stressful at the best of times, but during winter, when the weather is less than forgiving, it’s even worse. For most of us, winter is well and truly here, and that means that the weather is a massive problem that we are all currently facing. There is so much damage that a winter storm can do to your home, and with Christmas right around the corner, the last thing that you want is to not have a roof over your head. If you’re worried about the damage that the ice, snow, and rain could do to your home and want to avoid it, then keep reading.

Frozen Pipes
As the temperature drops, the biggest fear that most homeowners have is of frozen pipes, or rather, what happens after the pipe freezes. When your pipe freezes, it can crack, which will release massive amounts of water into your home, completely flooding it, and causing ridiculous amounts of damage, that could only be fixed by professionals, like White Mountain Restoration. To avoid this happening, you should think about wrapping your pipes in insulating foam, although this ideally should have been done before the temperatures dropped. Keeping your heating on at all times is also a great way to avoid your pipes freezing, although this could get costly.

House Fires
House fires are a lot more common in winter than they are in summer, and this is because homeowners are continuously doing all that they can to keep their homes as warm as possible, without thinking about safety. With a bit of thought, you can easily avoid fires in your home. If you use a fireplace, make sure to have it checked and cleaned professionally before lighting your first fire, and always use hardwood, rather than paper and trash. If you use space heaters, don’t leave them unattended, and keep them away from anything flammable. Also, avoid leaving your Christmas lights on when you’re not home, and never leave candles unattended. You should likewise make sure that you have a smoke alarm that works, to warn you if a fire ever did break out in your home.

From

Dangerous Icicles
Icicles may look pretty, but they’re actually incredibly dangerous. In fact, it’s been reported that around 15 people in the U.S die every single year because of icicles, so imagine how many more have been hurt and injured by them. They can also cause massive amounts of damage to your home, such as by causing leaks in your roof, which inevitably leads to further damage. Icicles are a problem mainly caused by unkept gutters, so make sure that you’re regularly clearing your gutters, even on the coldest of days.

Winter is a beautiful time of year, but it is also dangerous, and if you are not careful, a disaster could be right around the corner. No one wants to face disasters, especially costly ones, and especially so close to Christmas, so it’s important that you listen to the advice above.

Craft Projects To Have A Go At In 2018

Crafting is making a comeback. Whereas it used to be the domain of homemakers, grannies and those with way too much time on their hands, crafting is now the tool many entrepreneurs use to set up money making artisan businesses. With online platforms such as Etsy and Deviantart from which to sell their wares, unique crafts are becoming more accessible to the masses. Even if you’ve been hiding your creative flair under a bushel for the past few years, you can chart a course on the crafty path. Take a look at these crafty projects you might want to have a go at in 2018.

Origami
A craft and skill that has been around for thousands of years, the Japanese art of paper folding is much more difficult than it sounds. You won’t be creating random paper aeroplanes out of A4 pieces of paper, you’ll be folding specialist origami paper into oriental flying cranes, swans, frogs and other shapes. It can take decades to become an origami master. However, you can grab yourself an instructional manual complete with diagrams and have a go at perfecting a paper giant panda in the comfort of your own home.

Basket Weaving
Rustic crafts are seeing a resurgence in recent years as people ache to go back to a simpler way of life away from the notifications of social media and the continual advancements in technology. Basket weaving involves using wicker materials to hand make vessels using a randing or waling technique. By understanding how to knot and weave and using specialist tools under the supervision of a tutor, you will be learning the basics of an ancient craft.

Blacksmithing
While this might not be the easiest craft in the world to do in your own humble abode, it can be thrilling to learn a craft that was the job of high importance to the population two hundred years ago. Using a forge to heat up some iron which you then bend and work into the shape you require is tough work, but it can be hugely fulfilling. If you fancy forging your own door handles for your vintage pad, blacksmithing is the craft for you. You might not be able to get an anvil for your backyard, but there are plenty of classes that teach the art of blacksmithing.

Leather
The finest way of combining an ancient artisan craft with the requirements of modern life is to work with a material like leather. Using this material you can learn how to create iPad pouches, smartphone cases and purses. Perfectly hand stitched and made by your own fair hands, you’ll be merging old techniques with new uses. Bringing an older craft into line with the needs of twenty-first century life ensures that crafts don’t die out and wither away.

Be brave and unleash your creative flair in 2018. Make it your New Year’s resolution to become an expert in your chosen craft, and you never know, you may go on to teach others and make money from your new skills.

Fitness Boosting Techniques

Christmas time isn’t usually associated with fitness, other than fitness gifts, but to a lot of people fitness is just about everything. If you’re really into your fitness you’ll know there will come a time where you just don’t feel like you’re making any sort of improvement. Sometimes your body will just peak, and it’ll be hard to get back into a state where you feel like you’re making changes. This applies so much to people who try and body build. Sometimes it is hard to know what your muscles need to give them that little bit of an edge. So, this article is here to help all you fitness bunny’s out there boost your progress a little, no matter what your end goal is.

Food Counts
No matter what you’re trying to do, lose weight, gain muscle, tone up, you should really know by now that what you eat really does count. There’s foods out there that can really change the whole of your progress. If you’re trying to bodybuild, counting your macros and micros is a huge part of what you do, or at least it should be. Macros stand for macronutrients, and they should be what you’re consuming on a higher level. Micros are micronutrients, and you should be aiming to eat less of them. If you’re going through a cutting stage, you want to be trying to balance your macros with your carbs in order to make a difference. If not, you’re only going to be putting on weight rather than losing it. More tips by aretheyonsteroids can help you to understand what the perfect balance is. If you’re trying to lose weight, you won’t really be focusing on this so much. What you do need to do is make sure you’re cutting out all the rubbish. We’re all partial to a little treat day now and then, but if you’re not making any real progress for a while this should be the first thing that you cut out. You need to be on a strict clean diet for as long as possible if you want to try and lose the pounds again.

Fitness Matters
You can train as much as you want, but if you aren’t doing it properly you aren’t going to make any difference, especially if you’ve reached your peak point. When you’re at the gym or wherever you train, you need to make sure you’re putting maximum effort into every workout. Not a lot of you can say that you do that. How many times a week you train also makes a huge difference. There is such a thing as overtraining, and this can just as easily halt your progress. Without giving your muscles time to properly heal, you’re not going to be making the gains you want to. Overtraining even if you’re trying to lose weight can also become unhealthy. It might not halt your progress, but it definitely does impact your muscles and the fatigue on your body. Eventually this will catch up to you and you will begin to lose your motivation. Pace yourself, and make sure you’re putting 100% effort into the training you do do.

Looking Out for You and Yours Through the Years

We all want to make sure that we look after ourselves and those around us throughout the years. Unfortunately, the fantasy is always more straightforward than the reality. Factors such as work, relationships, and unforeseen circumstance have a habit of getting in the way, and the result all too often is that of life getting in the way.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Technological advancements have made it easier than ever to keep up to date with what is happening with your friends and family even if you are on the other side of the country or even the world. Furthermore, these advancements can also be beneficial to you, should you so wish.

Wanting to look out for friends and family is a natural desire. You want them to be happy, just as much (and sometimes more) than you want yourself to be happy. Keeping an eye out for those you love young and old can breed love and respect, and make you feel better about yourself in the long run.

Keeping in touch with those you care about even if you are miles away is now easier than ever. Video calling is a great and much more personal way of making sure everything is right in the world of your parents, grandparents or friends.

For the younger ones among us, Skype is the obvious choice. But for elderly friends and relatives you wish you saw more of, but can’t ever seem to make it in person, products such as Oscar Senior is a simple and easy-to-use device that does away with the unnecessary bloatware of more commercial electronics and streamlines the process to suit their needs.

As we get older, what was once so easy that you wouldn’t even need to think about during your youth starts to get a bit harder. It will approach in increments. First, your knees might ache when getting out of bed, or you’ll find yourself having to raise the volume on the TV, or even wonder if that tree outside has always been so blurry.

This could happen to you, or someone you know and, while at first, it can be a bit much to deal with, knowing that there are solutions can make the whole growing-older process that much more comfortable. When you or a friend or relative begin to feel not as spritely as you once did, identifying ways to tackle this as you grow older can end up changing your life for the better.

If it’s an ache or pain, consulting doctors to identify ways to change your lifestyle and get into shape is an excellent way for anyone suffering from unfamiliar pulls and strains. While vision problems can be solved by working with tri-state centers for sight and can help return your vision to how it was in your youth - it will also save you from losing your glasses four times a day.

It isn’t just keeping in touch and maintaining a healthy physical lifestyle that is important. Often, the most damaging problems can be in the mind.

With all of the stress that the modern world causes us, from worrying about the next bill payment to struggling to meet deadlines at work, to even thinking frantically about whether or not you are a good person, there are many ways which your mental health can suffer.

For this reason, it is essential that you can identify the problems before they become too much. The beauty of looking out for other people as well as yourself is that not only can you fall back on a community of loved ones which you can talk to and rely on, but also be able to be there for them as well, should they encounter some problematic road bumps in their life.

Fighting mental illness caused by stress or burnout is a battle that many are ashamed of and as such choose to face it alone for fear of being considered weak or unstable. However, being able to recognise the signs of mental unrest before they become issues is paramount to being able to help those in need.
If you or someone you know appears to be exhausted, unmotivated, or just simply down, consider taking the time out to talk to them in a way they feel safe and comfortable to discuss any problems. It might be that they are fine, and are just having a rough day or week, but should they be suffering from any mental strain, letting them know that you are there to talk with them will feel like a weight lifted.

It is not just your friends and family that you need to look out for. As always, you can’t help anyone until you start to help yourself. It is not selfish to want to look out for you every once in a while. And so, should you find yourself feeling down, tired, or unwilling to do things that used to give you so much joy, finding someone to talk to about your problems will help not only you but also those that care about you, as well.

For times when you might feel the strain, there are also smartphone apps that can assist with working through your problems, should you want to keep up with dealing with any issues. These are just machines, are there is no substitute for talking to a real thinking and feeling human being.

It is natural to want to keep up to date with all the happenings of your loved ones no matter whereabouts in the world they may be. Looking out for them, even from a distance, is more possible than ever in today’s world. All it needs is that little bit of effort, and you can rest assured you and your loved ones can live happy and healthy lives for years to come. With the number of options available for looking out for one another in a scary and often unfair world, there will be something out there to help you or those around you.

Harlem Globetrotters World Tour and Discounted Tickets

Hey neighbors!

I don't know about you, but I can remember watching some of the Globetrotter games on tv as I was growing up.  When I was given the opportunity recently to go to a Globetrotters game (courtesy of The Harlem Globetrotters and US Family Guides), I was pretty excited, but was not sure how I would like it.  I mean, they must have changed a lot since I was younger.  You know, Curly and Meadowlark Lemon and all the other guys were a pretty classy act to follow.  Anyway, I am glad I went.  Yes the players have changed, but they still are just as entertaining and talented as the team  I knew growing up.

The Harlem Globetrotters played a great game!  I enjoyed watching their interaction with each there, and with the audience.  The game brought about a lot of cheering and laughter.  It was a nice time for me to sit back and enjoy seeing some of the old antics, mixed in with some updated fun.  I want to say here, that The Harlem Globetrotters are just as family friendly as they used to be.  If you have the opportunity to attend one of their upcoming games, make it a family event and enjoy!

You can find a listing of upcoming games on their site.  I have also included information regarding a discount on tickets.  Be sure to take advantage of this!  Use code:FUNFAM http://harlemglobetrotters.com/tickets

It's Time To Get Serious With Your DIY

It can be great getting stuck into a DIY project. You get to focus all of your energy and effort on one thing, and you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour at the end of it. The trouble is when you end up coming up against a project that you're not going to be able to finish, or even start in the first place. There are few things more frustrating than having to get someone else to take care of a project that you'd much rather deal with on your own. If you want to be able to stop doing that, here are a few things that you can do to start getting serious with your DIY.

Do your research
If you want to start getting a decent idea of how to tackle some more serious or intensive DIY project, then you're going to need to increase the amount of knowledge that you have, even from a basic level. If you've generally been playing things by ear up until now, it's time for that to change. Sure, it might have been alright before, but as the projects that you take on become more difficult and complex, little mistakes or bad habits here and there are going to cause more and more problems that can end up ruining the entire thing. Luckily you've got the ultimate tool for finding any information that you need right at your fingertips: the internet!

Get the right tools
Now, you should never hold off taking on a project that you want to try because of the tools that you have. Anyone who tells you that you can't do a DIY project because you don't have a selection of huge power tools is someone who isn't worth listening to. That being said, many tools are going to make your life a lot easier, and it's better to know what tools you need before you start a project than running into a problem and needing to get something halfway through. Not only that but you should make sure that you understand your tools. Any tool can be dangerous, and you need to make sure that you're using them properly. Everything from chainsaw file size to the kinds of drill bits your using needs to be correct. Otherwise, you're just going to end up putting yourself in danger.

Be patient
When you take on a new project, especially one that's more challenging than anything you've attempted before, you're likely to run up against problems. The key is to make sure that you're not trying to rush through it or skip any difficult steps. Take your time and think carefully about everything that you're doing. If you do that, then you're going to be able to take on even the most challenging of DIY projects.

Of course, every time you improve your skills you'll probably find that there's a new level of difficulty that you haven't reached yet. The important thing is not to get discouraged by this but to take it as a chance to keep evolving and improving your DIY skills. Every project should be a test of your abilities, and you should relish the chance to push yourself at every opportunity.

Taking Care Of The Home’s Bones

For a lot of people, DIY and other home improvement work is mostly superficial. You are changing your home to make it look nice or fit a different theme, and won’t be adding much to its functionality. Of course, most people won’t need constant home-tech updates to be happy, but you will need to keep your home in good shape. This is impossible if you don’t focus on the right areas, as mere cosmetics won’t help your home if it’s falling apart. So, to give you some support, this post will be exploring your home’s bones and some of the ways you can keep them intact.

Structure
The very first, and possibly most important area to consider is the structure of your home. From the foundations which support it to the bricks and walls which help it to stand, your home will only be any good if it is structurally sound. When you first buy a place, you should always have a professional check it over for you. Along with this, you could also consider having this done every couple of years after your purchase, just to make sure that nothing is going wrong with the building you call home.

Wiring
Most people don’t consider wiring to be something which will degrade over time. In reality, electrical wiring has to take a lot of punishment, and this constant battle against power is seldom won. Replacing wiring in your home isn’t too hard, but it could be worth getting the help of a professional to make sure that it’s handled safely. Electricity can be very dangerous. So, it makes sense to look for someone with some experience before you get started.

Pipes
Along with the wires in your home, the pipes you have installed will also be very vulnerable to degradation over time, and this could impact areas like hot water and heating. You can find loads of great information on repiping your whole house around the web, though this job will also have to be handled by professionals. Simple pipe care can include regular descaling along with using cleaning chemicals throughout the system. Repiping not only makes the place more efficient, but it may even improve the temperature.

Roofing
Finally, as the last area to consider, most homes would be completely lost without their roof. Keeping the elements on the outside, this part of your home is very important, and it will be a big job to make sure that it stays in one piece. Having tiles fall off and your attic exposed could lead to some major leaks. This will be much more expensive to deal with than fixing the roof in the first place, so it makes sense to handle a repair over a replacement.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start working harder to preserve the bones of your home. Not a lot of people will think about this during their DIY, choosing to make things look nice, instead. Of course, this sort of approach will work for some people, for others, it will prove too costly to ignore these critical parts of the home.

How To Create A Happy Home

When you consider what your home represents on an emotional level, there are a lot of feelings of peace, security, safety, belonging, and feeling settled… yet, with such busy lives we can often let our physical home environment spiral out of control. This article offers a practical four-step process to create a happy home environment for you and your family.

1. DE-CLUTTER
There’s a popular saying that goes something like “tidy house tidy mind” which means the same could hold true for the opposite - in that a cluttered house could lead to cluttered mind - in fact, there have been a number of sociological and psychological studies that link the two. If you are always searching through clutter to find your car keys, or frantically searching through draws prior to going on holiday in a desperate attempt to find your passport - then you could certainly benefit from this advice. It leads onto the next phase of ‘getting organized’, but decluttering your home is necessary to get organized. How can you get organized when there is clutter everywhere?

2. GET ORGANIZED
Most people need some form of order in their life in order to feel calm, centered, grounded and balanced. This sense of emotional stability is closely linked to the feeling of stability and order you feel within your home life. Now that you’ve decluttered your home, you need to get organized, which sounds like a drag but the time investment will pay off as it will make your life a lot easier in the long run.  Have a place for everything, keys, bills, toys, shoes, etc.  Only by having a place where things belong can you organize your home and keep it organized.

3. GET RID OF JUNK
Yes, this sounds a lot like removing the clutter from your house or removing it from your yard.  This can take a large amount of time and effort if you do it yourself. However, there is another option, and that is hiring people willing to clear out your junk for you. Although junk removal prices vary hugely based on the area in which you live, there’s a good possibility you will be able to hire someone to remove the junk for you. This option can save you a lot of time, effort, and hassle. The alternative, you could hire a van or truck for a day or two and use this to cart rubbish to a local refuse site.

4. CLEANSE
The act of cleaning your home isn’t a purely physical experience; it has clear practical benefits but there are significant emotional benefits to cleaning too. It can be cathartic to go through your home and clean every corner of it, whether that includes pulling cobwebs down from the ceiling, vacuuming each room, or deep cleaning the mildew that has grown around the bathtub. The process of cleaning your physical home gives you an opportunity to cleanse the energy and emotion stored within your home, and can be a very soothing experience.

In summary, the four steps are to declutter… then get organized... get rid of the junk… and then cleanse your home. It’s a time consuming, and energy draining, process - but one that is well worth the investment!
