Singing at Sea 2016! {Photos} Part 1

Hello Neighbors!

Modesty here today with another photography feature.  This time I want to feature some photos from the SAS2016.  For those of you un-familiar with the SAS --- the Singing at Sea is a family-friendly (all bars, casinos, etc. are closed down for the duration) Christian cruise vacation that features 25 of your favorite Southern Gospel Artists (such as Tribute Quartet, the Inspirations, the Kingsmen, the LeFevre Quartet, the Kingdom Heirs, the Mark Trammel Quartet, Soul'd Out Quartet, Wilburn & Wilburn, etc.).

My three sisters and myself had a very memorable five days full of fun, food (you will not leave hungry, that's for sure!), fellowship, teaching, singing, and wonderful time with friends.  All of the following photos were taken by me, and if you're interested you can see more at www.memoriesbymodesty.com.  Part 1 will be featuring some photos of and around the ship, and in following parts we will feature the ports, the food, the singing, etc.

The BEST Banana Pudding #Recipe!!

Banana pudding is a southern delicacy. A southern "thang" that a lot of northerners may not understand the appeal of - until they try that first bite! It is definitely one of my favorite desserts, and I recently came across a recipe that I played around with a bit and it turned out what I have to say is probably the best I've ever had! Whether you've never tasted or maybe even never heard of banana pudding before, or whether it's one of your family's staple desserts, you will want to try this version. There's not much that can compete with the cool, creamy goodness of pudding, bananas, and cookies all combined in one delicious pan!

Ingredients:
1 box Nilla Wafers
2 tablespoons Butter, melted
6-8 Bananas
12 oz. Whipped Topping, thawed
14 oz. Sweetened Condensed Milk
8 oz. Cream Cheese, softened
Large-size box French Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix
2 cups Milk

Directions:
Crush about 40 cookies (approximately half the box, I use my Ninja on the pulse setting). Combine with melted butter and spread into a 13x9 pan. Layer banana slices on top.

Combine milk and pudding mix in a bowl, mix well. In a separate bowl blend cream cheese and condensed milk until smooth. Fold in whipped topping. Add this mixture to the pudding mix and stir until well blended. Pour over crust/bananas. If desired, top with additional Nilla Wafers. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for one hour or until ready to serve.

I often make this the day before so it's completely chilled and set before serving. Because the bananas are layered between cookie crust and pudding, and as long as you have an airtight lid on your pan, they don't spoil or mush at all. In fact, you can store leftovers in the refrigerator for several days without a problem. I love the fact that this dessert is so easy to make, and requires minimal prep time. It will be perfect for the warmer weather that is just around the corner. or at least that we're hoping is right around the corner, since we have snow today! If you do try this recipe, leave a comment and let us know how you and your family liked it!

GoOrganic Candies

Hey neighbors!

Do you worry about what your family is eating?  Concerned about the snacks your children are having?  Then take a moment to check out these GoOrganic candies from Hillside Candy (Confections for a healthy lifestyle.).  They have fruit snacks, chews (that are sort of like taffy), and hard candies in this line.  Hillside Candy also has sugar free candy, GoLightly, a sister brand to GoOrganic.

Of course when I open a box filled with bags of different flavored candies my whole family got excited.  For instance, my daughters wished they had the ginger flavored ones on the cruise they recently went on.  They took ginger capsules with them because they heard that ginger was good to help keep you from feeling sick.  They would have much rather taken a Ginger Chew or hard candy.

One of my daughters thought the Fruit Medley, organic fruit snacks were the best!  These are gummy, chewy snacks, made with real fruit, include 100% of your vitamin C requirements and also contain vitamins A and E.

All of the candies are gluten free, non GMO and USDA Organic.  From GoOrganic: Get the best tasting organic candy available. GoOrganic is flavorful and refreshing. We use organic evaporated cane juice and organic brown rice syrup for sweetness. Organic brown rice syrup is minimally processed and not highly refined as tapioca syrup is...tapioca syrup is really no different than corn syrup. This is CLEAN candy, containing no trans fats, no preservatives, no corn syrup, no FD&C colors and no hydrogenated oils. The line has a 2 year shelf life, is gluten free and Kosher. Adults and kids can feel good about having GoOrganic as a wholesome treat.

Some of the Hard candy flavors include: Blood Orange, Iced Mint Mango, Ginger Extreme. Apple, Cherry, Honey, Ginger, Pomegranate, Honey Lemon

Chews include: Ginger Chews, Fruit Chews, Chocolate Ginger Chews

Then there are the Organic Fruit snacks in Fruit Medley.

Even being diabetic I can have a piece of the candy because there are 15 carbs in 4 pieces.  That means, one piece occasionally will not hurt me.

Be sure to follow them on their social media:
Facebook: HERE
Twitter: HERE

Which flavor would you like to try?  One neighbor is going to get the opportunity to try a few different GoOrganic candies, because they are going to send the winner a sample box!  Excited now?  Go ahead and enter!

See you soon.

Designing A Kitchen: What You Need To Consider

When it comes to designing a new kitchen, you can go wild with your imagination. You need to design something that not only matches the rest of your home but is practical for everyday use. You’re going to be spending a lot of time in here, so you want something you can be happy with. However you proceed, you should be able to find something useful in our tips to help you throughout the process. It can be a pretty overwhelming task at times, so let’s simplify it for you.

kitchen-670247_960_720 (1).jpg

Design

Well, duh! We’re obviously discussing the design of a new kitchen, but I want to focus specifically on how you make it look. We’re not talking about practicality here; this is about how satisfied you feel when you walk into the room and see that design.

So, let’s think about a few things you could consider. What are you going to do to the walls? Are they currently bare? Are you going to paint over them to match the rest of your house? You could always tile the walls to add a bit of variety. Browse some designs at places like www.tilemarkets.com and see if anything takes your fancy. There’s a lot of flooring design options to consider as well. You might want to consider some slip-resistant material and something that can be cleaned and vacuumed easily. Pick something that ticks all these boxes and still matches the design of your home.

water-kitchen-black-design.jpg

Practicality

Once you’ve got that perfect design in place, you need to think about how you’re going to use your kitchen. Where you place different cupboards and appliances depends on what you’re planning to do. It’s no point putting them out of reach if you’re not very tall or they’re blocking other appliances because they don’t fit properly.

You’ve got to think about the basics like garbage bins as well. Don’t put them in a difficult place to get to when you’re going to be using them a lot of the time. Don’t just think about appliance positioning, either. Think about doors that might swing open to block things, or whether they’ll get in the way and act as a potential hazard. Make sure you can store sharp items safely so that young hands can’t reach them. There’s a lot to think about when it comes to practicality, so you’ve got to put a plan together before you go making any hasty decisions.

Kitchen_interior_design.jpg

New Purchases?

Well, if you’re going to design a whole new kitchen, you might as well think about buying some new equipment. This all depends on how much money you’ve got left to spare, of course. Dragging old and dusty appliances into a brand-new kitchen is never the ideal solution if you can avoid it. You don’t want to waste money for no reason, though.

Look at the appliances around your home and see what could do with an update. Some of them might just need a thorough cleaning or a bit of maintenance. Give your washing machine a clean both inside and out. Use some natural cleaning equipment to get rid of that gunk in the oven. You find lots of information about this sort of thing at websites like www.howstuffworks.com to help you. Try and get this all done before you move anything in. Waiting until the kitchen is done will potentially cause messes and spills on floors and walls; something you really want to avoid.

kitchen-193981_960_720.jpg

Think About The Future

If you’re buying a new house and it’s just the two of you, for now, you might be tempted to do with a small kitchen and a particular style of layout. However, what happens when your family starts to grow and you’re left with inadequate facilities? You don’t want to be redesigning all over again, so think about what needs to be in place for the future.

This is only a kitchen, so you don’t have to go crazy. I’m just saying that you might need some extra space, or maybe a breakfast bar somewhere where you and the kids could sit one day. It might just be that you’re planning to have a really small kitchen, and you need to extend it a little. That sort of thing could potentially wait a few years, but it’d be good to get it done now to save hassle down the line.

There aren’t many rules when it comes to designing a new kitchen; just good planning. Create something you’ll be proud of; you’ll be living with it for a long time if things go to plan!

How to Have a Stress Free Family Day Out

A stress free family day out isn’t just something that exists in fairytales. You too can have your very own stress free family day out if you just use the tips in this guide. Going out with the whole family can be daunting, but with a little pre planning everybody can have an incredible time.

Pack the Right Supplies

To have the best family day out, you need to make sure you have everything you need with you to have a good time. You don’t want to lug around a huge suitcase full of supplies, but it’ll help if you have a few things that could help you to have a better time. For example, you could have snacks and drinks to make sure you don’t need to stop for food if hunger strikes. Staying hydrated is important too. You could also pack some plasters and first aid supplies, so you’re prepared if one of your little ones has a fall - this happens all the time on days out, no matter how careful you are. You could also take a toy or two to keep them occupied if you stop somewhere for a rest and they get bored. Many of the things you take will depend on their age and how interested they will be in what you’re going to be doing. You can’t always predict their moods though, so making sure you take something to pacify them is a good idea.

17252122745_554f516b91_z.jpg

Choose Somewhere Suited to Everybody

If you’re going for a day out someplace new, choose somewhere suited to everybody. If you want to go and explore a museum, you should compensate with your children by letting them go to a park or something afterwards. Plan things that everybody who is coming along will enjoy to minimise tantrums that day.

Make Sure You’ve Considered Every Eventuality

Depending on what you’re doing and where you’re going, you’ll want to consider every eventuality. Filling your car up and checking it over should stop you from having car trouble. Making sure you dress everybody in comfortable, sensible clothes should stop anybody from complaining.

Have a Rest

Don’t try to fit in as much as possible on your day out, no matter how infrequent they may be these days. It’s better to do less and really enjoy what you choose to do, than try to fit in as much as possible and rush around. Have a rest every now and again to make the most of where you are and what you’re doing. Stop to watch the world go by. Maybe have something to eat a place like https://lovelycorral.com/golden-corral-menu. It’s these moments that make life great!

Don’t Panic About Things Outside of Your Control

Try not to panic about things outside of your control. Many parents do this, but you’re just worrying yourself for no reason. As long as you’ve planned what you’re going to be doing and you’ve taken precautions for the day, you should relax.

Leave Electronics at Home

Leave your electronics at home to spend quality time together as a family. Take one mobile just incase you need to make an emergency call. Apart from that, enjoy your day together and put all of your attention to it!

Five Awesome Gifts For Guys - Spring 2016

Hey Neighbors,

Choosing the right gift can be a nightmare, especially when you’re buying for a guy. It can be so difficult to know what they would like. Sure, you can pick up socks or a bottle of something, but it hardly shows much thought or imagination.
So whether it’s his birthday or you just feel like buying a man a present, we can help. Here are the hottest gifts for summer 2016!

If your man is a musician, then why not treat them to an addition to their pile of gadgets? Low tech but really neat, a Pick Punch allows you to make your own plectrums. Be warned, don't leave your cards lying about, they’ll soon have pick shaped holes in them! Really unique, they’re lots of fun. If he plays guitar, then what about an effects pedal? Man love gadgets and pedals are no exception. Just make sure you keep some earplugs handy!

Some guys never grow up, and most men will still start fighting over anything remote controlled. It’s proof that they are still  big kids at heart. Remote control helicopters are almost unfathomably popular with guys of all ages. You can pick them up at all different prices, but even those at around the lower end of the scale work really well. You needn’t pay more than around $30-$40 dollars for your own mini chopper! If you want to purchase a high flying gift, go to nitrotek.co.uk

Does your guy like to stay well groomed? You can pamper your partner and buy him some essentials. If he’s threatening to take up more room on the bathroom shelf than you already, you might want to go easy on the bottles. Why not buy him a new razor? Even if he’s got a beard he still needs one to keep it in check. And if you don’t like his new beardy look, then why not use it a (not so subtle) hint! If you’re not sure what type to buy your fella - check out iwantashaver.com

Experience days are always an appreciated gift with the wow factor. Luxury car driving days have been popular since they first appeared. If he’s mad about Maserati's or fancies a Ferrari? This could be the only (legal) way he’d ever get to drive one! Having the chance to screech around a F1 track is the sort of thing little (and not so small) boys dreams are made of! Want to find out more - look here.

Is you #1 a secret geek? If he loves all things vintage, and still likes gaming now and then, search no more. A retro games console is the perfect present that has a awesome quirky factor. Take him way back to his youth and let him play like a kid, but with the benefits of modern day technology. Thankfully there’s no need to spend twenty minutes waiting for a cassette game to load any more! Kids today don’t know how good they have it! Who would have thought technology would have come so far?

If you’ve got any great gift ideas for guys, then why not share them in the comments below? After all, sharing is caring!

My Son Graduated Military Police School!

Hey neighbors!

Well, we went for my son's graduation from his military police school.  He has done super!  He has completed basic and his MP school now.  As a reservist he is now home and making plans on how to continue his education for law enforcement.  We were able to spend several hours with him on Family Day, the day before graduation.  Then after graduation he was able to come home!

He presently has a job, but is looking for one that will assist his future goals of working in law enforcement.  He is also checking out some of the other college courses available both locally and online.

He is reaching for his goals and working to make them reality.  Way to go son!

Rubber Duckie and Friends product review!

Hello Everybody!

I was asked by the ladies here At the Fence to write a review for a Hippie the Hippo shower head from Rubber Duckie and Friends!

But before I review this adorable product, let me tell you a little about myself. :)
My name is Megan. I'm the oldest of nine kids and I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for me! Serving Him is better than anything else in this life. That's me on the right.

Ok so now that that's over with, let's continue!

I received a Hippie the Hippo from Rubber Duckie and Friends. I thought that installing it would be a little tricky. But since we already had a hose hooked up to our shower head it was a breeze! Now for those of you who would have to connect the hose the process will take a little longer but should be no trouble at all. And think of your chubby faced child and how excited they'll be when it's all hooked up!

As you can see in the first photo Hippie the Hippo comes with a holder that has suction cups attached to the back so you can place it anywhere in your shower! Use it for a shower or simply slide it out of the holder and wet your childs hair when they're taking a bath. Why use a cup to wet their hair when you can use Hippie the Hippo!

My six year sister hates taking showers! She actually starts crying sometimes when we tell her she has to take a shower this time because we're in a hurry. I know that the only real difference between a normal shower head and any of the Rubber Duckie and Friends products is that it's cute and fun. But apparently she doesn't think so. Lol! She actually wants to take showers now. Kids are crazy! ;)

Click on any of the links I have provided and it will take you to the Rubber Duckie and Friends site. What's your childs favorite animal? Tell us in the comments! We would love to hear from you.

How To Pull Off A Spring Clean At Short Notice

Spring is an ideal time to give your home a thorough clean and de-clutter. But what happens if you get a call from visitors before you’ve had time to throw out the rubbish and clear out the spare room? If you’re panicking about impending guests, here is a guide to help you achieve the perfect spring clean in no time at all.

Focus on the main rooms
If you’re short on time, focus on the rooms that you use every day and the areas your guests will see. If you have a study, which never gets used or you haven’t been in the garage for months, leave these until later.

Grab a big bag
The first thing to do when you’re cleaning is to tidy up and get rid of any trash. A five-minute whizz around will often make a huge difference. Store away toys, clothes and shoes neatly and throw away anything you don’t need or want. If you’re struggling for time, store away bags of miscellaneous items in the garage and sort them out once your guests have left.

Vacuum
Once you’ve cleared your rooms, vacuum through the house. If you have stains or your carpets are looking a little worse for wear, consider a professional carpet cleaning option. Once your floors are bright and clean, this will give your home a real lift.

Get scrubbing
Grab your rubber gloves and cleaning products and head for the kitchen and bathroom. Clean your surfaces and polish fixtures and fittings. Put out a vase of fresh flowers and load the dishwasher. In the bathroom, give the sinks, shower and bath a thorough scrub and clean the toilet. Spray some room fragrance to leave a pleasant, fresh odour.

Prepare the spare room
If you’ve got guests staying over, make the bed and add some cushions and throws to create a homely atmosphere. Lay out some fresh towels and put any clothes or shoes away in the wardrobe. Add a basket of flowers or a scented candle as a finishing touch.

Polish
If you have wooden furniture, take a few minutes to give it a nice shine with some polish and a cloth. Dust down your ornaments and frames.

Spruce the garden
You don’t need to gut your gardens, but a bit of sprucing will help, especially if you plan to spend time outdoors. Tidy up the front garden and make sure the driveway is clear. Give any chairs or tables a quick wash down with the hose and remove any dead leaves. Put toys away in the shed and give the lawn a quick mow if it’s looking a little wild.

Last-minute visits can be stressful, but if you plan carefully and work efficiently, you can carry out a lot of chores in a short space of time. Get your partner, kids and any generous friends involved and the house will be spic and span in no time. Prioritize important tasks and don’t worry about getting around every room. When your mission is complete, put your feet up and relax with a well-earned cup of tea.

Let's Find The Perfect Home For Your Family

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Finding the perfect home for you or your family is difficult. Why is this? Well, first we all have an image of our perfect home. Come on, you know you do. For me it would probably have an indoor pool and a beautiful balcony, connected to  the bedroom. From there, I could overlook a gorgeous green landscape. But this is a pipe dream and I know it is for two reasons. The first is if that house is on the market, I’m not going to be able to afford it.

As much as I’d love to say I have a few million to spend on a house like that...I don’t. The only way I could buy that is if I purchased it as an investment. I would then rent it out and eventually pay off the massive price it cost. But that’s not going to be an attractive option for most people. No one wants to be trapped under that amount of debt. Besides, if that house does exist it’s probably no where near where I live now and that’s a problem. So, how do you find the perfect home for your family?

Go In For The Long Haul

If you aim to get on and off the property market quickly, you probably will find a home. But it won’t be the perfect home or anywhere close to it. Once you’ve purchased the house you’ll probably spend a fortune redesigning it. You might even move after a few years in search of better prospects. Particularly, if the home was too small for your growing family. To avoid this, you should conduct a thorough search of the property market. Don’t be afraid to look quite far away from where you are now. Remember, if you find the perfect property it could be worth the move.

Check Out Modern Homes

Have you seen the houses that are being built right now? They come with all the features you would want in the modern home. They are designed for energy saving and smart living. As well as this, they are truly customizable. To see what I mean, you could research Nikoo homes. They offer stunning new modern living for families and they have houses on sale right now. They’re not the only company out there either. Many builders are ready to sell the modern home to families all over the worlds.

Build It Yourself

Of course, you don’t have to leave it up to the builders. You can build your new home yourself, from scratch. This romantic concept is now a real possibility thanks to the reduced costs of building a private home. To get started, you just need to look for a contractor willing to help you create a design. Then, you’ll need to think about all the features you would want and need. After that, it’s a matter of finding a suitable budget. But contractors will work to the price that you can afford. That way, you won’t have to worry about spending an obscene amount. No matter how cool that Olympic swimming pool might look. It’s not worth going into debt.

I hope you can use one of these ideas to find the perfect home for your family. Have fun exploring the property market.

Perfect Hair with Number 4 Hair Care Products! #Review #NoBadHairDays

Getting the perfect hair can be a difficult task...something most women would agree on, I'm sure! Overall my hair is actually pretty easy to manage, but then again, the majority of the time I'm going casual in a ponytail or braid-one of the perks of working from home. For church or special events however, I like to put a little more effort into it. Generally I don't do fancy styles; I usually opt for some variation of a half updo. What is hard is finding the right products to give my hair the shine, bounce, and definition I want. Enter Number 4 High Performance Hair Care, and their amazing Texture Styling Creme!

I received the Valentine's Day Gift Set from N.4 Hair Care, which includes the Texture Styling Creme, and bonus gifts of their Mighty Hair Spray and Fluoro5 Elixir Restore and Repair Oil.
The Texture Creme has become my go-to product. Even on days I don't do any real styling, I love to use this in my hair! After towel drying my hair I apply a small amount to the length of my hair. I have never used a product that gives so much definition and texture without weighing down or giving my hair that stiff look and feel. This is literally the best hairstyling product I have ever used!

The Restore and Repair Oil is another great product, and one that is also now in daily use. A lot of the products used to add shine leave my hair looking oily-even if I just use a small dab. This doesn't! Adding a couple drops in with the texture creme, or applying on its own, makes my hair set and shiny without looking greasy. It also helps control frizz (the biggest issue I have with my hair!) which is a huge plus for me.

I'm normally not a fan of aerosol hairsprays, but the Mighty Hair Spray has changed my thoughts on that. This is the most un-hairspray-feeling hairspray ever, yet it holds styles very well. I literally thought it wasn't spraying right because my hair didn't get that plastered look, yet it worked great. I love using this for my bangs, because they have a tendency to curl/wave even when I use a straightener. With a bit of the texture creme before straightening, and finishing off with this Mighty Hair Spray, my bangs stay straight and in place all day-without being stiff or glued in place!

As you can tell, the N.4 hair products made a great impression on me. These styling/finishing products are some of the best I've tried, and I have loved the results every time I use them. So if you're tired of bad hair days, I suggest you give Number 4 High Performance Hair Care products a try!

Great Ways To Landscape Your Garden On A Budget

Spring is on the way which means one thing – you need to give your garden a manicure. Over the winter, gardens don’t get the TLC that they do during the warmer months. Let’s face it, it is almost impossible to maintain, so there is no point even trying. Now, though, it is going to make all the difference. Not only will your neighbors judge you for the jungle in your backyard, but you won’t be able to enjoy the weather without a place to sit and relax. Thankfully, this is where landscaping comes in handy as it will transform your garden. The only problem is the price – it is expensive. If the price is an issue, here’s how to cut the costs.

Find A Cheap Contractor

Do you want to do the project, or do you want a professional? Most of you will like the sound of a professional because it means less work. However, it does mean more money. To negate this issue, scroll the Internet for the cheapest landscapers in your area. A quick Google search should provide you with plenty of options like Poynter. Then, just go to the http://www.poynterlandscape.com/landscape-architecture webpage for more information. These are not the only contractors, but they are a great example.

DIY

The alternative is to do some DIY. DIY is the answer for anyone that is looking to live the frugal life as it hardly costs a penny. One problem that you might have to tackle is a lack of experience or skill. Don’t worry because this is easy to overcome if you find the right instruction manual. When it comes to saving money, you have to prepare yourself to get your hands dirty. Otherwise, someone else will have to get theirs dirty, and that will cost you money.

Buy In Bulk

You are going to need a lot of items to make the transition, and that means spending a lot of money. Or does it? There is a neat little trick that you can use to save money – buy in bulk. When you buy items in large amounts, it automatically lowers the price of an individual item. All you have to do is make sure that everything you buy, you use. If you don’t, you will waste money on products that will sit in the garden shed waiting to see the light of day.

Shop Out Of Season

Another great way to save money is to start shopping now. Now is the off-season because the weather is still pretty cold even though it is technically spring. As such, the items don’t cost as much to buy. If you don’t believe that, take a look at http://home.howstuffworks.com. But be wary because the prices will soon start to rise. Before you know it, you will have to pay a lot more for your materials if you don’t act quickly.

Look For Freebies

Everyone loves a freebie because they are free! And, there are plenty lying around. Lots of people throw away gardening materials that are perfectly okay. If you know someone that is throwing something away, ask them to give it to the cause. Or, you can look through rubbish bins.
