Something About Silver

Hey Neighbors!

Here is a really nice company that recently contacted us about working with them.  It is called Something About Silver.  They have some beautiful jewelry for you!  I was able to choose between three different necklace styles.  I chose an initial necklace for my daughter in silver.

It is a very delicate looking necklace.  M loves it.  She brought it on the trip with us.  We were able to choose from silver or gold.  The chain was available in 17 inch, but can be customized up to 19 inches.  She will be wearing this on Sunday and to special dinners and such on this trip.  You can wear many of the necklaces with casual or dress clothes.

Something About Silver has necklaces, bracelets, rings and charms.

About Something About Silver:
We specialize in personalized hand stamped jewelry. We offer a wide selection of handmade necklaces as well as bracelets, rings and keepsakes that are certain to be the perfect gift or will become a cherished piece of jewelry. All of our jewelry is fabricated by hand in our Florida studio.

The necklace arrived in a nice gift box, tied with a ribbon.  There was a small fabric bag inside that contained the necklace.  What a nice gift idea for that special someone!

The winner will receive their choice of:

1.Tiny initial block letter necklace on a delicate chain in choice of sterling silver or gold filled.
2.Tiny heart on a delicate chain in choice of sterling silver or gold filled.
3.Hand Stamped bar necklace with the word LOVE or another word of your choice in sterling silver or gold filled

Below are the other two necklace options!

This is a combined giveaway with PI of Products, so you will get extra entries for following, liking etc, PI of Products pages.  We will be working together for the next couple of weeks.

Meet Renata At Sunnyside Farm Fun!

Hello Ladies
It was so nice of Lori to invite me to participate in Meeting Monday.  I've been enjoying getting to know some other ladies through the previous posts!

My name is Renata and I live in NSW, Australia.  I blog at Sunnyside Farm Fun where I enjoy writing about our numerous farming adventures & misadventures, homeschooling our 4 children, family life & some of my favourite recipes.
I have been married to my wonderful hubby, Dave,  for just over 13 years.  We were both 20 when we got married & we wouldn't have it any other way.  We have been able to experience so much of life together & it's nice to know we are each others' best friends & have been since we were  just 16!   When I was 22 we were blessed with our first child Zai who is now 10.  Ellie quickly followed ~ our only precious daughter!   18 months later we were so surprised to find out I was expecting twin boys (Jud & Eli) ~ what a double blessing they are!!!  During my twin pregnancy we experienced twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. This is when there is an imbalance of blood between the twins ( being identical they had joining vessels across the surface of the placenta). It can only happen to identical twins.  What a difficult time this was, but such a refining time for my faith in the Lord.  What began as a childhood faith when I was just 3 really had to grow up to trust the Lord with the lives of my very sick babies who were so close to death.    Praise God we were able to have experimental laser surgery which was successful & the boys arrived at 34 weeks healthy & well.  They were cleared from all possible complications due to TTTS at two years of age & we are just so very thankful!!  We would love more children, but we are learning to trust that God's will is the best even when it hurts a lot.
In 2008 with our very young family we packed up our household and moved from a major city 1200 kms out into the country onto our little farm "Sunnyside".  It was incredibly  hard moving so far away from all our family &  homesickness really hit me badly during the first year .  To make matters worse our eldest started school & I really struggled with letting him go out into a school full of teachers with very different standards than we had.  I began to blog not long after our move in the effort to keep our family & friends up to date with our happenings and so they could 'watch' the children grow up.  I was so pleasantly surprised to find that one of the rewards of blogging was I got to virtually 'meet' other Christian ladies & this abated some of the lonliness I struggled with. It was at this time that I learnt about home schooling & began to investigate the different educational options we had here in Australia.

It wasn't until the next year that we took the plunge & began to educate our children at home.  Bringing them home ( by this time Ellie had joined her brother at school) caused quite a stir in the community as we were the only people around who had done this (some had never even heard of home schooling).  It's taken a few years, but I think I can honestly say that although I will always carry the 'strange home schooling Mum' title, people are more accepting now than they were at the start.  Home schooling our children has been such a joy & I can honestly say it is one of our best parenting decisions yet!   We have watched our children flourish & mature both academically, spiritually & physically as we join together as a family to learn about this beautiful world the Lord has made.

Our farm has also continued to grow & we have had so many projects & added various animals over the years.  Our aim is to produce more of our own food & products & we've had such fun experimenting with different things along the way!!

We are so blessed to live this life.  Many times we dreamed of a country life & often I wondered if God even heard those prayers.   We are so excited to be celebrating 5 years of living here at beautiful Sunnyside this month  ~ yes, God heard & answered, but in His own time, not mine!!!

I would love to have you visit me & follow along on our journey as we endeavour to be good stewards of this land & family the Lord has blessed us with!
Blessings

Hi Neighbors!

How many of you have an infant in the home?  Perhaps you might be interested in learning about Purex Crystals for Baby!  Or if you have a family member with sensitive skin, Purex Crystals for Baby may be just what you are looking for.

Purex Crystals for Baby has a baby inspired fragrance, is hypoallergenic, dye-free, and 87% Natural Formula.  Purex Crystals for Baby will be available at Walmart in early February.  You can use this right along with your normal detergent.  Because you add the Purex Crystals at the beginning of the wash cycle they spend plenty of time in with your clothing.  Your clothing comes out soft and smelling great.

We have two teenage boys who exercise and of course play sports.  Their sports clothing is quite ummm...scented at times.  :) Using Purex Crystals will help improve that.  I will also be using this with our towels.  I LOVE soft, sweet-smelling towels.

Are any of my neighbors interested in trying Purex Crystals for Baby?  Purex sent me 3 coupons for free Purex Crystals for Baby.  One neighbor will receive all three coupons.  Be sure to enter!

iPad Apps For Kids For Dummies

Hi Neighbors!

Here is a book every mom and dad should own, iPad Apps For Kids For Dummies ($19.99).  I definitely recommend it for homeschoolers.  I want to say up front that I appreciate the stand the author, Jinny Gudmundsen takes.  I appreciate that she places warnings on Apps that can take my children away from the App and on to the internet.  She is very careful regarding content, advertising (of which she is very intolerant of), Enticements to spend money and bias.  I really appreciate that, and that is just the beginning of the book.

The iPad Apps For Kids For Dummies book breaks the Apps down into age related groups as well as separating them by subjects.  Some of the subject titles are: Dinosaurs, Games, Girl Power, Learning Apps, Science, and Book Apps, just to name a few.  Each listing has the name of the App, price listing (including Canada and UK), the company it is produced by, a picture and a description of the App.  Sprinkled throughout the book are Tips, Remember (just in case something really important is covered), Warning (here they will list anything that might not be quite child friendly), and of course technical stuff.

Most of the Apps in the book are anywhere from $0.99 to $9.99.  There is a chapter on free Apps.  In the back of the book is a section that maps the Apps out by age group.

The entire first Chapter is Using an iPad with Kids.  This shows you how to set up safety features and reminds you that when you hand down an iPad to your child, you need to wipe it clean first.  Internally!  You can set up restrictions and passwords to help protect your child.  You will learn how to create folders on your iPad in this chapter.

I personally will be going back through the book and adding some Apps to our iPad to try.  I like the thorough descriptions of each App as we have some rules set down regarding the type of games we will allow in the home.  Jinny Gudmundsen has done a very good job with this book.  Are there Apps in here I would not use?  Yes, but this book gives me the necessary information to choose wisely.

So neighbors, if you have a new iPad and want some information on Apps for children, this is the book for you.  Or, if you are a homeschooler and need some research done before purchasing Apps, consider the book iPad Apps for Kids For Dummies!

A Fence At the Fence

Hello Neighbors!

Well, we managed to finish fencing in part of our yard.  The backyard was previously fenced in with a wire farm fence.  Then we had to add additional fence to the left side of our yard because the neighbor's dog decided our yard was more fun than his. It wouldn't have been to bad, except he was a full grown puppy, that liked to chew.  And I am talking he would chew anything.  That is how we lost our grill cover.  So the fence on the left side of our home ended up being two layers of farm fence that was about 6-6 1/2 foot high.  Needless to say, he finally stopped visiting.  Then we decided we wanted privacy fence, both to keep our dogs in, others out and so we could enjoy being outside without people watching us when we were outside.  (Fence san jose), I don't think so.  We did it ourselves.

My two sons started near our shed on the right hand side and worked their way back to the corner.  We added a gate at the corner for easy access.  Then we started in the right hand corner and headed over towards Brutus' yard.   He is the dog who liked to visit.  We reached the corner right before the freezing weather blew in.  We did attach one panel so it could be removed when we need to bring materials in when we do large projects outback.  Now we will have to wait for spring to finish up the side of the yard to the rear corner of the house.  This will enclose the entire backyard, shed and deck.  I LOVE IT!  I will be able to go out back, turn the dogs loose and enjoy the deck without any worries.  Shadow, our smallest dog still can not be turned loose, because she slips through the farm fence.  So, until spring she is on a long leash, under constant supervision or she is in the kennel run we have.  The Shelties on the other hand can still enjoy their freedom, but it will be great to get it done.

What will we start next?  Who knows.  Tell me what you think!

What About Service?

Hi Neighbors!

This is a subject that I have considered writing on for quite some time.  No, not auto service manchester pa, but I am talking customer service.  Be it a local department store or an auto dealership.  I am tired of being addressed as, "Hey there." or even "Hi guys!"  Let me give you some examples.

We purchased a Ford SUV from a local Ford dealership.  The customer service was wonderful!  Yes, I am aware they were trying to sell a car, and yes, they knew we were pretty settled on their dealership, but I am talking the customer service we received.  No one acted like walking around the lot and talking to us was a hassle.  When we wanted time to think it over, they understood and were not upset that we waited a full day before deciding.  The salesman was helpful and yet not too pushy.  He spoke clearly and knew his stuff.  Yes, because of his helpfulness and demeanor we have been back, and we would recommend them to others.

Now switch to a restaurant in a local department store recently.  My son went in and purchased my salad.  When he returned it was over $2 higher than normal.  I told him I would go in and see what was up, as maybe they had changed prices.  No, they hadn't.  When I approached the cashier and explained the wrong price she looked at the receipt and said she was the one who had checked my son out.  (She wasn't, just the other employee was under her name when ringing him out.)  Then she had to pull out a calculator to figure out the difference between $7.49 and $5.35.  OK, maybe that was necessary, but then she went to the manager, who looked at the receipt and told her to subtract the $5.35 from $10.00 and give me a refund.  Now, I only wanted my $2.14 cents back, but she pulled out the trusty calculator again and told me I would receive $4.65 back.  I quickly explained that she only owed me $2.14.  The manager came over to see what the apparent problem was and after explaining it all to her she thanked me for being honest.  Now, I know mistakes happen, and I was very polite when I went in to correct the error, but I must confess I was really frustrated by the time we were done.

Am I saying they are horrible?  No, but they are not trained well.  They need to know how to run register and how to deal with the public.  Yes, I know she was not a new employee or manager because we have been there many times.  We have had other minor problems there before.  I see things like this happening more and more.  People used to be trained in customer service, and now many of them do not care.  Now when someone does their job, speaks politely and can answer questions about their product, store, etc. we are amazed, yet this used to be the norm.

What do you think?  Are we lacking in customer service today?  Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

Toby and His Hospital Friends

Hi Neighbors!

Here is another great, little book for your children by Charmaine Hammond.  This book is based on a true story from the book and movie, On Toby's Terms.  Toby and His Hospital Friends is about a Pet Therapy Dog.  The book sells for $11.95 from KendahlHousePress.com.

This story would be really good for children to read who might be making a trip to the hospital, or to teach children about Therapy Dogs.

A little about Toby:
When Charmaine and her husband adopted Toby, a five-and-a-half-year-old Chesapeake Bay retriever, they figured he might need some adjusting time, but they certainly didn’t count on what he’d do in the meantime. Turns out that Toby was a holy terror who routinely opened and emptied the hall closet, turned on water taps, knocked over the water cooler, pulled and ate things from the bookshelves, and spent his days rampaging through the house, knocking down everything in his path. Oddest of all was his penchant for locking himself in the bathroom, and then push the lid of the toilet tank onto the floor, smashing it to pieces. While much love, understanding and a bit of therapy helped, the real breakthrough came when Toby became a "Pet Therapy Dog," essentially, training that helped him prepare for his special and innate talent to comfort and soothe people. And thus, Toby has become a "new" dog. And now, children of all ages can learn not only about Toby, but how his understanding and love for people helps them to feel soothed, helped and simply loved.

This book is colorful and interesting.  The story will hold children's interest.  Also included in the back of the book is a page of questions to enhance children's critical thinking skills.  The story is even more interesting because it is based on fact.  You can tell your children a little about the real Toby.

A little about Charmaine:

Bestselling author Charmaine Hammond is a former Correctional Officer and Chartered Mediator, and speaks to audience around the world.

Safety With Razors

Hey neighbors!

Wow!  My youngest daughter has started shaving!  I am amazed how quickly time flies by.  I mean my oldest daughters are 26 and 27 (soon to be 28).  My two sons are 17 and 19.  These are the ones that I actually considered investing in safety razors for men for! :)  Then my fifteen year old daughter and now my baby (she is 12 and will be 13 this year) has started shaving.  I think I am getting old!

Anyway, with each of the girls I did a walk through about safety with razors, both our own safety and the safety of others.  Have you ever stepped on a disposable razor when getting in the shower?  Or perhaps you have had an experience like my husband.  Someone put their razor in a cup on the edge of the tub and when he picked it up (he was not wearing his glasses), someone had not put the safety cover on.  Yes, he received a small slice to his thumb.  He wasn't real excited about it either.  So, we have rules about shaving, for the safety of others.  Always put the safety cap on and put the razor away when you are finished.  If you should drop yours, or see someone else leave a razor on the edge of the tub or the shower floor, please pick it up and put it away.

I did go through some simple tips for my daughter.  She was taught how to hold the razor.  We discussed the different types of shaving creams and gels she could choose from.  I prefer moisturizing gels.  I also informed her to never, ever dry shave.  I am sure she will though, because I think we all do at one time or another.  At least she was warned.

We talked about different types of razors she could use.  Disposable, safety, electric.  My one daughter even reviewed one you charge by plugging in to your USB.  Strange!

What about my neighbors?  Do you have any great hints or tips for shaving?  Perhaps you have a shaving incident or funny story you would like to share.  Be sure to leave a comment and let us know.

Would a Massage Chair Help?

Hi Neighbors!

OK, I am really excited.  Remember when I posted about my back injury and finding out I had diabetes?  It will be 2 years in May since I was hospitalized and found out I was diabetic.  I am now considering a Massage Chair.  Why?  I am glad you asked!

I started using a treadmill and dieting after I returned home from the hospital.  Well, the exercise really didn't start right away as I had to wait for the back to heal a little first.  I started out on the treadmill, slowly.  When I say slowly, I mean I started out going 1.8 and only walking about 10 minutes.  I am happy to announce that I am up to 3.3 and doing 2.86 miles today in 55 minutes!  Tomorrow I am shooting for 3 miles.  Yippee!  Now for the reason I might consider a massage chair.  When I return from walking I have some minor aches occurring in my lower back and down my one leg.  Yes, it is exactly where the major pain was when I was hospitalized.  Usually after getting home and relaxing a little it goes away.  I also have a handheld massager we sometimes use.  I am thinking since I do sit at my computer quite a bit a massage chair might be a help.

I do have an adjustable chair that I sit in right now.  This helps me keep my feet flat on the floor.  When I sit in a different chair, I try to use a footstool or something to raise my feet up.  I also have a small cushion I can place behind my lower back to help relieve pressure.   I also use the pillow when we travel.

Since the injury I have started sleeping with a pillow between my knees like I did during pregnancy.  This helps quite a bit since some mornings I wake up a little stiff.  And yes, I bring this pillow with me when we travel too!  To help with the stiffness I have begun some stretching and flexing exercises before getting up.

So, what do you think?  Would a massage chair help?  Do any of my neighbors own one?  I would love to hear your opinion.

Daiya Dairy Free

Hi neighbors!

How many of you have a need for nondairy products?  Almost everyone in my family LOVES dairy products.  I think I could seriously make a meatloaf out of dog food, cover it with cheese and my husband would never know.  None of my family requires nondairy products, but I was more than willing to give daiya a try.

daiya is dairy, soy and gluten free.  Do I have your attention?  First off I will tell you, my children looked sort of disgusted at first.  My husband on the other hand was quite willing to try something new, especially since he has been dieting and this is a cheese substitute.  We picked up the shredded mozzarella and put it on my husbands hamburger.  He actually didn't notice a difference.

daiya products are entirely plant based, have no cholesterol, trans fat or preservatives and are free of common allergens.  The daiya products melt and stretch just like cheese.

About daiya:
After two years of mistakes, melt downs and minor catastrophes, their perserverance paid off. Daiya Style Shreds debuted at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California, the event where innovation gets noticed. It was love at first bite. Consumers raved about the new dairy free alternative never seen before in the vegan and allergen market.

I will tell you, it is probably not a product I personally will be purchasing again as we LOVE our cheese and have no allergies.  If you need a an alternative though, you definitely might want to check out daiya.  To make this easier for you, I am going to send two neighbors 2 coupons each for a free daiya product.  This way you can get a chance to try daiya for yourself.

Be sure to check out the daiya site for recipes and to get more information on daiya products.

Disclosure:I received no monetary compensation for this post.  I did receive coupons for free daiya product for review purposes.  All quotes in red are taken from the sponsor's email or website.  All thoughts and opinions are mine.
