Do My Own Pest Control

Hi neighbors!

This summer we have been having a real problem with wasps outside our back door. They have been building nests, and are constantly flying around out there. With six children and 2 dogs, I don't need anyone getting stung. Do My Own Pest Control was able to send us Wasp Freeze-Aerosol ($16.49) and Tempo 1% Dust ($24.90) along with the Bellow Hand Duster ($12.99) for inserting the dust into cracks, crevices and holes where wasps might be living.

My husband decided to use this as a teaching time for the children. He showed them the wasp nests and we were even visited by a wasp or two while he explained what he was doing. After reading the directions out loud, so everyone heard the precautions and warnings, he proceeded to fill the bellows and dust 2 nests, along with a few openings we believed wasps were in. He used the spray on one of the nests where we could see a wasp, which fell to the ground immediately. It was nice too that you can stand a safe distance away while using the Wasp Freeze Aerosol which shoots up to 15 ft. Not bad as long as you have good aim.

The Wasp Freeze is supposed to work on Wasps, Bees, Hornets, Spiders, etc. I am keeping the can handy for now. The Tempo 1% Dust works, on all sorts of pests. Wasps, Bees, Hornets, Ants, Roaches, etc. My husband is going to spray it under the edges of the house. That should help control some of the other pests we have.

You can find all of these products at Do My Own Pest Control, along with many other products for dealing with pests. Make sure to check them out if you are having any problems.

Disclosure:I received no monetary compensation. I did receive Wasp Freeze, Tempo 1% Dust, and Hand Bellows for review purposes. All quotes are taken from the Do My Own Pest Control website. All thoughts and opinions are mine.

Farm Rich Snacks Review and Giveaway

Welcome neighbors!

I love visiting out At the Fence with my neighbors in the evening after it has started to cool off some. Isn't it funny that as children, the heat didn't seem to affect us, yet now, I sometimes hate even walking from the house to the car! We just finished our evening watering, so I thought I would share another product with my neighbors At the Fence.

We were able to try the Farm Rich Breaded Cheese Sticks. My family loves them! Since we didn't have any marinara sauce, we heated up some leftover spaghetti sauce. They loved them! I couldn't have any because of my carb count for the day, but they sure smelled good. They looked great too! When they came out of the oven they were almost bursting open with thick gooey mozzarella cheese. I have to confess it was hard not to try one!

I was able to purchase Farm Rich products at our local Walmart, and after the response these received, I have a feeling they will be on my shopping list next week! Farm Rich has several other products I believe that my family would like to try. I am sure we will experiment with other products, like the Pizza Slices, Quesadillas, Philly Cheese Steaks, and the Mozzarella Bites. These Farm Rich products make great after school snacks, treats for family game night, or appetizers and they are easy to prepare. I think we will plan on having them next Friday for game night.

You can find Farm Rich on Facebook and Twitter. Also, Farm Rich has some great recipes on their website for you to try! I highly recommend the Farm Rich Breaded Cheese Sticks to my neighbors At the Fence.

One neighbor will receive two coupons good for a Farm Rich product.

Encourage Your Children to Eat their Veggies!

Hi Neighbors,

I have to start this off by telling you I was never made to eat anything that I said I didn't like. Unfortunately for my children, their mom is not like that. So here are 10 tips to help you encourage your children to eat more veggies.

1. First of all, we have a rule in the home, that they have to at least try any veggie (or other food) that is new. Or even if they did not like it before, they must try it again as tastes change. They are only required to eat a teaspoon sized helping. Having that ground rule in place from the beginning, they know that even if they don't care for it, they will only have to eat a very small portion.

2. I let them help find recipes that include the new veggie. Perhaps a soup, or casserole, that will at least hide the new veggie. Or a recipe that includes something that they really like, so the new vegetable will not be a big deal. It would amaze you what they can come up with! Also by seeing the different uses for the vegetable in the recipes, sometimes they actually become excited about trying it! Also if they have chosen the recipe themselves it encourages them, and they in turn encourage their siblings.

3. I let them help me shop and pick out vegetables. They are allowed to choose some that they like along with the new vegetable we are going to try. Occasionally it is a fresh veggie and other times it is frozen.

4. Many times we will set out a tray of veggies with their favorite dips to try. I have one child that will eat anything if she can dip it in ranch dressing! And I mean anything! By setting out a couple of different dips, they can experiment and see which flavor they like best.

5. I have tried hiding the veggies in a meal we are cooking. Like the afore mentioned soups, stew, and casseroles. Sometimes this works, and they don't even realize that they are trying something new. I have a few who at the mention of onion or green pepper make faces, yet they don't notice them in their chili or pasta sauce.

6. I also believe having a variety of veggies help. the more they are exposed to, the more willing they will be to sample new products. Make sure you do not fall into a rut when cooking and making meals.

7. Start early introducing them to different types of veggies (and other foods). If you start out right, you often won't end up with a fight on your hands.

8. Make sure they know you are willing to try new foods. If daddy won't eat his veggies, most likely the children will not either.

9. Let them get creative with their food. Give them some of the veggies and a dip, or cottage cheese, and let them design and dip before eating. Broccoli can become trees, raisins can be eyes or ants, get creative with them.

10. Another idea would be to set a certain night to try new foods. Then everyone knows that you will be trying a new veggie or recipe all at the same time. Make sure that some are new to you too. You might be surprised how that will encourage your children to try something new if mom and dad are.

Back To School Style!

Hi Neighbors!

As most of you know, we home-school, so we don't do a lot of special shopping for school, but each of my children does have their own style! With 6 children to shop for (although you wouldn't call the older two children!) I have to keep in mind, a lot of likes and dislikes.

My youngest a 10 year old, loves bright colors! Hot pinks, brilliant blues, etc. The funny thing though is she is the same one who loves to wear fancy gloves, hats and shawls! She loves to dress up in frilly, lacy dresses and have tea parties. She loves the type of skirts and dresses that flow around her when she spins. If she could she would dress like that all day long. The more frills the better is her motto.

My 14 year old is more sedate in her style. She still likes feminine, but hers run more to blouses with skirts. She has a tendency to wear the layered look. And she loves short sleeve sweaters. Her colors are more subdued. Not that she doesn't wear pink, but they are calmer than what her younger sister would choose. She loves denim skirts that are full.

Both my boys on the other hand like to wear comfortable blue jeans or khakis, with polo shirts. Occasionally they wear a t-shirt with something printed on it, but generally they only go out of the house in a collared shirt. The 16 yr. old also likes to wear casual dress shirts, long sleeved, with the sleeves rolled up. For church my oldest son loves to wear a full suit, including tie. And he is not one of those that removes the coat when he gets to church, he wears it the entire time.

My older two girls are pretty easy to shop for. Both wear skirts and blouses and very seldom dresses. One has told me over and over that she doesn't like pink, but I have seen it creep in occasionally. She prefers blues and tans. My oldest daughter, likes a littler brighter colors, definitely not like the youngest would choose, but she does choose more colors than my 24 yr. old.

I love to shop for each of them, and bring home surprises, but I always have to stop and think for a minute if this is something that suits their style. Every once in a while I can find clothes that actually coordinate for when they sing together at churches. Hard, but not impossible.

YOYO Lip Gloss Zippered Pouch Gift Set Minis Review and Giveaway

Hey Neighbors!

I have been having a great time out At the Fence recently. I am sure most of you have heard of YOYO Lip Gloss. I recently received the new YOYO minis zippered pouch gift set. It comes with 3 retractable YOYO lip glosses. My daughter was so excited! I have a 10 year old who really enjoys testing products like this for me. We have Kissable Kiwi, Girly Green Apple, and Big Bounce Bubblegum. All three come with clips to attach to your belt, waistband, a purse or backpack strap, anywhere to keep it handy. The nice feature is, with the retractable attachment, you won't constantly be misplacing or searching for your lip gloss. Just pull it out, uncap it, apply to your lips and then let the lip gloss retract. It is that easy! And there is a built in breakaway feature, so if your gloss gets caught on something or someone is pulling on it the clip will come undone. And when you run out of lip gloss just undo the snap and purchase more to attach to your clip. These three came in a bag that you can zip shut.

These are perfect for a little lady. And moms can rest easy because....there are no sulfates, no phthalates, no fluoride/glycol, no lanolin, no petrolatum, no mineral oils, no paraban, no gluten-wheat, and cruelty free. They smell good too! My daughters favorite was the Big Bounce Bubblegum. There are some other great sounding flavors available like Cha-Cha Chocolate and Bodacious Blueberry. You can follow YOYO lip gloss on Twitter.

So, how can you get some YOYO lip gloss? Well, you can buy it at a local retail store, or perhaps you could win your own set right here At the Fence! Make sure you share information about this giveaway with your neighbors so they can enter to win too!

Lauren's Hope Medical ID Bracelet Review and Giveaway

Hi Neighbors,

I know I have mentioned this several times recently, but I was diagnosed with diabetes not too long ago. Now, in a 6 week time period through diet and e
xercise, I was able to lower my Blood Glucose level enough to stop medication. I had to really watch my carb intake. Anyway it was recommended that I have a medical ID just in case. (You know there are some medications and such that will raise your blood sugar.) I contacted Lauren's Hope and they were very willing to work with me. I love their selection and that they do not look like regular medical bracelets. They are actually pretty! Now should anything happen where I am unable to tell someone I am diabetic, the bracelet will do so. I had my name, Diabetes II, 2 phone numbers, along with "no medications" engraved on the back of mine. I love it! I received the Sophie ($39.95)

You can find Lauren's Hope on Twitter and Facebook. If you have a child, spouse or loved one that needs a medical ID make sure that you stop by Lauren's Hop and see all that they have available. I am sure you will not be disappointed. Remember a Medical ID may be the only information emergency personnel will be able to receiv
e.

From Lauren's Hope:
When you or your child was diagnosed with diabetes, your life instantly changed forever. As your doctor explained medical procedures, medications, and other lifestyle adjustments, you may have been overwhelmed thinking about all the things that would have to change. One thing that your condition shouldn't affect, though, is your individualized sense of style! In the past, medical bracelets have been big, bulky, impersonal and unattractive - which meant a lot of people would opt not to wear them.

That’s why Lauren’s Hope was founded - to create medical alert jewelry that people would actually want to wear. This inspiration for the business came from a family friend of the company’s founders. As a teenager with diabetes, Lauren refused to wear medical ID jewelry because it was “ugly” and could “draw attention” to her illness. Lauren’s mother asked for a fashionable medical ID to keep her daughter safe, and the rest is history.

Today, Lauren’s Hope is still dedicated to making beautiful medical ID jewelry for people of all ages, with any condition, and with any sense of style! Whether you have a style-savvy teenager with a penicillin allergy or you feel self-conscious wearing your own chunky diabetes ID to a dinner party, we can help you find a fashionable alternative that will keep you safe. People with diabetes, severe food, drug, and insect allergies, heart conditions, asthma, autism, a visual or hearing impairment, epilepsy, or any chronic illness need to wear medical alert jewelry with that information engraved, as well as people who are on certain medications or are gastric bypass, lap band or organ transplant patients.

In the event of an emergency, your medical ID will do more than just make you look good - it can also save your life. Your medical ID bracelet should be custom engraved with a few important details so medical personnel will know how to treat you best. They will need to know your name, your medical condition(s), any allergies and important medications that you have, and emergency contact numbers.

The winner will be able to choose from the following bracelets:

Could You Use Portable Solar Power?

Hi Neighbors!

As many of you know we spend a lot of time on the road. Many times we end up in a campground and portable solar power would be quite helpful. Or we are in a location where there are no outlets nearby. I mean we have been at churches that have an outhouse out back. Between blogging, cell phones, and all the electronics that a family of 8 carries around I believe solar power would be a major benefit. Not to mention the times we have ended up without a power source at all. We spent one weekend in our camper with no power or water! We really felt like we roughed it!

I can also remember times that we sat in a tent without power, would have loved to have some power source. Or how many times have you pulled out a camera or camcorder, only to find the battery is dead and you have no way to charge them? Having portable solar power would have really made my day. We have actually gone to a restaurant and found a table with a plug nearby so we could re-charge a cell phone or camera. I am sure some of you have done that too!

Is a portable source of solar power something you might benefit from? Personally I always thought I would love to purchase some property somewhere and make it self sufficient. Solar power, our own well, a garden and raise our own animals, such as chickens, etc. Maybe someday in the future. For now I would be happy to be able to use solar power when necessary to charge our smaller products.

Goal Zero carries many kinds of solar power sources. Their products were originally aimed at people who had no power, or were on an unstable grid. Now they market their products to anyone who might need a solar power source. Take some time and check out their website if you are looking into going off the grid, or perhaps you just want the ability to use solar power to charge your laptop, cell phone etc.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Disclaimer:I am participating in a blog campaign from Bucks2Blog. I was compensated,
however, the views and opinions are my own.

GeoSafari Tuff Scope Review and Giveaway

Hey Neighbors!

I have the perfect item for your budding scientist or explorer. It is from Educational Insights and is a GeoSafari Tuff Scope ($39.99). This is really neat! It is very well made and can be used as a regular microscope, or a handheld out in the field. The Tuff Scope is recommended for ages 5+ or K+. The Tuff Scope requires 3 AA batteries, that are not included. This microscope will bring many hours of exploration fun to your children. Allow them to collect specimens and then spend time studying them. GeoSafari's Tuff Scope comes with one slide that already has a cotton fiber (this looks so amazing!), and then 2 blank slides. There is also an attachment where you can take pictures with the Tuff Cam (sold separately). Up to 400x magnification with the microscope and 2x as a field scope. The zoom magnification is 50x-100x, 100x-200x and 200x-400x. I was amazed at how clear this little microscope was. Another feature I really like is that there is a built in storage drawer in the base of the microscope. Perfect for storing specimens, as long as there are no live bugs!

Both my daughters had a great time exploring with the Tuff Scope. We even tried looking at saliva! The specimens you can look at are endless. You could even have the keep a little journal of what they have looked at and a description of how they looked.

Now, I want to take a little time to introduce you to Educational Insights if you have never before visited their website. They have some of the very best products for teachers and home-schoolers. I have reviewed several of their products and have never been disappointed. There is so much information available on their site. Numenko-in-a-bag Review and Giveaway

Neighbors!

I love to visit out here At the Fence with you! I hope your day is going as well as mine. I just have to tell you about this new game. It is called Numenko! We love it! This is such a fun game, and it helps you and your children improve math skills. Before I describe this game, let me tell you Math was not my favorite subject. I did well in Math, I just preferred my English classes. I mean I in my senior year I took one quarter of Trig, and decided I had all my Math credits, why bother. Anyway, I say all that to say, my whole family enjoys Numenko.

This is the Numenko-in-a-bag. I will only be calling it Numenko throughout this post, but know that this is the one that comes in the bag. There is also a board game. (Maybe you will be seeing that one later!) I really like the way you play this version because you are working on your own personal math crossword, you are not playing off each other. I think that helps remove some of the competition and stress off the younger children.

Basically you lay all the number tiles and multicoated tiles face down in the center of the table. (Do not place the free choice tiles in yet. (They are the ones with the smiley faces!) The multicoated tiles have the symbols for addition, subtraction, multiplication , division, and the equals sign all on one tile. (They look a little unique.) If there are 2-4 players, each player picks 20 tiles from the center. If 5-6 are playing each one takes 15 tiles. Everyone receives 1 free choice and then all the rest of the free choice are turned upside down and placed in the center with the other tiles. (Be sure to mix them in!) Now, let me explain the tiles a little bit. Obviously the number tiles are exactly that, they are the numbers 0-9 and you use them as such. The multicoated tiles may be used as an addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or equals sign. The free choice may be used as any one of these, a number or a math symbol.

Once everyone has their tiles chosen play begins. Each player plays right in front of themselves building math equations, but they must be played off each other. You do not just lay them out separately. Basically like a Scrabble game, but remember you are building your own in front of you, you are not working off each other. You may recalculate or rearrange your tiles as many times as you like to complete the game. If you get stuck, you may exchange a tile by saying “swap” and placing one tile in the center and choosing two more. You may do this as often as you need to. If a player has used all their tiles, they say “done” and then grab four more tiles from the center. The game is over when there are not enough tiles in the center for someone to do a swap (2 tiles) or a player says “done” but there are not four tiles left in the center for them to use. At this point if a player has no tiles left unused he/she can declare “game over”. The winning hand is then checked by the other players, and if all equations are correct they are the winner. If any sum is not correct the other players may choose to end the game, or they can eject that player from the game, take the players tiles and place them in the center and continue playing.

Should the game end and everyone still has unused tiles with no outright winner then each player adds up the unused tiles and the person with the lowest score wins. The numbers count as face value, Multichoice count as one, and the Freechoice count as 10. (So make sure you use your Freechoices!) Remember that the Multichoice tiles can be changed throughout the game. Reading across it may be addition, but the very same tile going down may be division. Or if you make your math equation longer it may become another symbol. For example:You may originally put down-3+4=7, and then decide to change it to-3+4x7=49. And if you build down it changes for the equation you are working on. Such as:

4*3*2*9
*
7
3 *3 *6
1
1

For my illustration the * stands for a Multichoice tile. (I just can not get my computer to make the same symbol they use!) You can see in the example that 4 plus 7 equals 11, but going across the equals symbol in that equation becomes an addition symbol for the 3 plus 3 equals 6. It might sound a little confusing the way I have described it, but it is really quite easy to play. I am really impressed by the quality of this game and I will be using both for family fun and for homeschool to improve math skills. This is a must game for homeschoolers. You may visit the Numenko site here. The game can be bought in the USA through www.chinaberry...com or www.dailygrommet.com, or through Numenko in the UK.

Numenko is a family business:

"When my daughter Stephanie was at school she had problems with maths. I tried to buy a game that might help her, but there were no games available at that time. I liked maths so I decided to make one myself.

Within a week I had created a board game, unfortunately although it worked,it was slow and laborious and there was no fun in playing it.

I put the game away and on many occasions over the years I got it out and tried to work on ways to improve it. Many years later, after my daughter had left school, got married and had two children of her own, I cracked the problems with the game. I came up with the multichoice.

I sudddenly had a game that worked properly, it allowed maths to be played by all ages, helped children improve their number skills whilst playing a game. It was challenging, educational and most important of all it was FUN to play.

From the board game I called Numenko came the table top game (numenko-in-a-bag) that allowed children to play with adults on an equal footing. It has also been used by schools for Special Educational Needs."

One neighbor will win their own Numenko-in-a-bag. Believe me this is a game you will want. I really recommend this game if your child is having some problems with math, as they will not feel intimidated as they play.

Men's Shaving Tips From My Husband

Howdy neighbors and friends At the Fence! I have a post today that is written by my husband. He has offered some tips and handy hints about men's shaving. I hope you enjoy the read! And make sure to check out the funny story at the end from me:)

1.Use a Correct Razor.
I like to use an electric razor. It seems to give a better shave and leaves my face feeling less irritated. This is just my choice of tool. I know others who do not like the electric razor but I prefer one. Make sure you keep the blades clean and sharp.

2.Start With a Clean Face.
I don't like shaving after I shower as it tends to leave beard hair all over me. And when I have to use a regular razor I always use warm water on my face. Make sure that you use enough water and shaving cream..

3.End with a Cleanser and Moisturizer.
I am not a big fan of men's smelly products. I always tease my boys about using their cologne and after-shave. But a good after-shave helps moisturize your face and soothe any nicks or stings. Also the wife really likes it!.

So, back to me, I know that this is not a lot, but trying to get shaving hints was not easy. I wanted to tell you a story a friend shared with me about the other day. We had been talking about this post and she told me a story about her younger brother and when he first started shaving. He came out of the bathroom and was talking about how his shaving was bothering him. When they asked about the problem, he said his legs were itching? Turns out he thought all men shaved their legs! Talk about funny. Just goes to show that some men need some help and tips in this area.

Brothers All Natural Healthy Snacks

Good day neighbors!

As you know we are presently on a quick trip to Florida, and what do you need on a trip with children? Healthy snacks! For some reason children seem to think when you travel you need to snack. Rather than chips and sugar coated snacks, where you end up with very hyper children riding in car, not to mention they seem to get more irritable, why not include Brothers All Natural Crisps. They come in several types of fruit, so you are sure to find one to please everyone. We received their Mandarin Orange Crisps, Apple Cinnamon Crisps, Asian Pear Crisps, Fuji Apple Crisps, Banana Crisps, Peach Crisps, Pineapple Crisps, Strawberry Crisps and Strawberry Banana Crisps. All of these are 100% natural with no additives or preservatives. So you are getting 100% fruit with no sugar added!

Brothers All Natural starts with fresh fruit and send it directly to their state of the art Freeze-Dried process. By removing the water from the fruit, you are left with a delicious fruit crisp! "Fruit Crisps are.. Not Baked-loses too much flavor, Not Fried-adds loads of fat, Not dehydrated-adds preservatives, Not Sweetened Dried-adds sugar, Just FREEZE DRIED!" The same process is used for their Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Fruit Crisps.

These are seriously a great snack for a road trip. And I can even snack on some! Watching carbs still, so if I just have 1/2 a bag as a snack it is not bad. And for most of the Crisps each bag contains 2 fruit servings! And we here At the Fence think they taste great! Our favorite were the apples and bananas. (especially the apples with cinnamon!)

So next time you are looking for a great tasting, healthy snack, whether for a road trip, a trip to the park, or just to have around the house try the Brothers All Natural Crisps. You can purchase Brothers All Natural food products at top retailers or right on their website.

Disclosure:I received no monetary compensation for this review. I did receive several samples of the Brothers All Natural Crisps for review purposes. All quotes are from the Brothers All Natural email or website. All thoughts and opinions are mine.
